Click to view full image... 1876 (Mar. 21) Cover to the USA bearing G.B 2 1/2d rosy mauve plate 2 with error of lettering LH-FL tied by a fine Malta A25 duplex, red London and Boston Paid datestamps on the front, the cover with some staining on the left side well away from the stamp. The only other example of this error recorded on cover used in Malta (sold in Harmers, January 1978 for £800) has a large piece torn from the upper edge resulting in the loss of half the Malta datestamp.   Forces Mail. 1894-1903 Covers and cards comprising 1894 (Sep 20) letter from the Commanding Officer of H.M.S "Alecto" at Benin Creek informing Mrs Chick that her son has been dangerously wounded by rebels whilst on a reconnoitring expedition and has had his arm amputated, with the cover to London bearing 14 Portugal 2 1/2r newspaper stamps (two others removed, no postmarks), and copies of the official report of the action and medical reports on the wounded; 1898 (June 30) stampless cover to London endorsed "no stamps available, Jebba Camp" with black boxed Burutu datestamp and "2d" + " 1/2" charge marks of Liverpool (edge faults); 1901 India 1/4a postcard with a printed advert for smokeless cartridges sent to Lieut Baynes in India and redirected to Ceylon and then to "W.A Frontier Force, Benin" with Forcados River arrival c.d.s; and 1903 USA 1c postcard uprated 1c (faults) to "Gore Barrow, KOSB, Lagos Battalion, W.A Field Force, Lagos" with arrival datestamps of Lagos (Mar 5) and "NORTHERN NIGERIA" (Mar 30), a little creased.
