  1807 Entire letter from Fort St. George, Madras, written and addressed in French to "Monsieur le Comte de Courten du regiment de chevron an service de S.M Brittanique, Seringapatam", with boxed "POST FREE" on the lower flap. The letter mentions the departure of the Governor-General Lord William Bentinck (who was recalled following the 1807 mutiny at Vellore) and the arrival in Bengal and imminent departure for Seringapatam of the Commander-in-Chief General Wellesley. An interesting official letter to a French Count serving in the British army in India. £180-220

  Bombay-Aden Sea Post Office. 1871-1908 Covers and cards with various "SEA POST OFFICES" transit datestamps including 1870 small oval type code E and 1873 larger oval type code A, one 1885 cover from Tarbert, Lockfyne with "COLOMBA STEAMER / B / GREENOCK" c.d.s on reverse, another cover sent within Bombay but missent to Aden and the Sea P.O; 1903 postcard with QV 1a unusually cancelled by the "SEA POST OFFICE / A" single ring c.d.s and 1905 card posted on the ship and cancelled by the "C. Click to view full image... 1911 (Feb 18) Allahabad First Aerial Post, third type postcard, similar to the previous type but only 152x114cm and printed on thick brown (non-glossy) paper, signed by the pilot, addressed to London. Franked by KEVII 1a tied by the special pictorial cancel in magenta, a second superb strike of the special cancel applied below in black with an Allahabad c.d.s alongside. Small corner fault at lower right corner (clear of the printed design) and a couple of other light creases, otherwise fine and very rare. The Aerial Post cancel was only used in black on privilege mail from officials involved with the event and few examples are recorded; it is exceptional in combination with the magenta cancel and used on one of these Pequet postcards (of which Reddy only records three examples of this type 3 card).
