1862 Napoleon III 1f carmine, official reprint, tete-beche pair used with dotted star cancels, good margins on all sides, fine and very rare. With Roger Calves Certificate (2007) confirming the genuine status of the pair but describing the cancels as of doubtful origin ("apocryphe"), apparently because these reprints were not authorised for postage and are only priced mint by Yvert and S.G.; however other examples of these reprints are known postally used and S.G. state they were available for postage, and these cancels clearly appear to be genuine. Only about six tete-beche pairs exist of the original 1854 1f, and just 40 tete-beche pairs were reprinted in 1862. A major rarity of French philately. Yvert 18e, €40,000 mint, unpriced used; S.G. 79, £35,000 mint, unpriced used. Photo on Front Cover. £4,000-5,000
