Somalia. 1941 Italian East Africa pictorial set of nine all overprinted "BRITISH OCCUPATION" and surcharged with new values, from 10c to 10L, in red, violet or black. These overprints were done in Mogadishu on the orders of the South African forces, but the higher British authorities did not give their approval and virtually the entire stock was destroyed. A rare unissued set, all superb unmounted mint, all with pencil expertising signatures including Alberto Diena, the set with 2016 Ceremuga Certificate. Sassone 1/9, 5,000 (9).   Sea Post Office. 1886 1/2a Postal stationery envelope to Rangoon cancelled by "RANGOON STEAMER / SERVICE / B OUT / FE. 12" c.d.s (Proud D1) used on the Calcutta to Rangoon Sea Post Office; the only ship to depart Calcutta on a Feb. 12th date using this c.d.s type was the "Simla" in 1886. Minor edge staining but a very scarce cancel. £200-250

Sea Post Office. 1893 (Mar 20) Cover to England with India 2a6p tied by "RANGOON S.S OUT / SET No. X / MA 20" c.d.s, believed to have been used on the S.S "Mergui" which operated between Moulmein and Mergui between 1892 and 1895 calling at various coastal posts including Tavoy and Ye (see Proud "Burma" pages 834/5). Possibly the only recorded example of this Sea Post Office. A little creasing at left edge, otherwise fine. Photo on Page 84. £200-250

Click to view full image... Chin Hills. 1942 (Aug 17) Cover with "Battalion Commandant Chin Hills" imprint, signed "H. Ouquid Lt. Col., c/o Supdt. Lushai Hills, Aijal, Assam" posted from Falam to Scotland bearing Burma 1a pair, octagonal censor, backstamped at Aijal (Aug 21). Falam was one of four offices in the Chin Hills which remained in British hands after the rest of Burma was occupied by the Japanese in May 1942. These towns held out until November 1943, mail being carried by runner through Japanese territory to Aijal. A scarce cover. Photo on Page 84. £150-200
