  1954 National Institute of Oceanography "Oil Pollution Investigation" Business Reply Card, dropped by aircraft into the North East Atlantic to investigate ocean currents, found on North Beach, Herm (Aug 22), posted back to Wormley with a London machine (Aug 27) and arrival cachet. Believed to be the only card from these 1954 experiments to have been found on Herm. £100-120

The local stamp issues include 1949 Pigeon Service used pigeongram and cover; 1953 1d bisects (2 covers); 1954 BEA 3d surcharge proofs in black on 1/2d imperf pair, 1d pair, 3d partly imperf block of four and 3d strip of three; 1954 3d issued surcharge in blue in a sheet of 30 and on covers (6, two delayed by storm); 1954 8 doubles bisects (3 covers); 1954 triangular imperf proofs (12); 1954 6d on £1 voucher; 1957 1d bisects (2 cards); 1958-59 2/- and 3/- booklets; 1961 Europa imperf proofs (2); 1962 "Delayed By Storm" cachet, etc. A good collection. Jethou & Lihou

  1849-1900 Letters (without covers) from Guernsey concerning the lease of Jethou (2) or written on behalf of the tenant Philip Barker concerning damage to housing or his intention to quit the island in 1877, and 1860 (Feb 17) letter written from Jethou by George Smith who says "the weather has been so bad I have not been to Guernsey since last Novr and then nearly lost my life in crossing"; and c.1909 unused picture postcards with circular "JETHOU ISLAND / CHAN. ISLES" in violet (2). Also two 1885 letters regarding the lease on the island of Lihou. (9). £250-300
