St. George" backstamped by red boxed "INDIA LETTER / COWES" (In3) and "INDIA LETTER / DOVER" (In6), one or both handstamps applied in the London Ship Letter Office and one clearly applied in error (probably the Dover mark, possibly applied as the port name in the Cowes handstamp was a little unclear). Isle of Wight
Robertson and the British County Catalogue both show the oval ship letter handstamp (S1) and India letter type In1 used at Cowes, and India letter type In2 at Ryde. However Tabeart speculates that ship and India letter handstamps for "Isle of Wight" were actually all used in the London Ship Letter Office, and this does seem likely.
