Click to view full image... 1930 (May 23) Printed Zeppelin cover from Buenos Ayres carried on the Graf Zeppelin First Europe Pan-American Round Flight from Rio de Janeiro to Seville via Lakehurst, very unusually addressed to Mufindi, Tanganyika Territory, correctly franked by 12c + Zeppelin 20c pair and 90c strip of three. Handstamped with the Zeppelin cachet and backstamped at Cadiz (June 9), Madrid, Daressalaam and Iringa. Probably a unique destination for a Zeppelin cover from Argentina. Backstamped oval "FORWARDED BY / J.B WILLCOCKS / SHIPPING & EMIGRATION / AGENT / PLYMOUTH", a few letters a little faint but clearly readable and scarce. Willcocks was paid by the Government to find emigrants to go to the colonies in Australia. £150-180

Victoria. 1859 Registered cover from Geelong to London bearing 1857-59 Emblems 1d (2), 4d and 1/-, tied by "6" numerals, endorsed "Per Northam via Marseille", datestamps of Geelong (July 16) and London (Sep 19). The P&O "Northam" ran aground on a reef in the Red Sea, the mails not being recovered for five days, the cover with traces of water staining and a further 4d stamp at right apparently washed off, presumably as a result of this incident. The 1d and 4d stamps with faults prior to use, otherwise fine and an attractive cover. Photo on Page 46 in printed catalogue. £300-350

  Victoria. 1891 Entire letters posted within Ararat franked 1d, addressed to Dr Smith or the matron of the local lunatic asylum both containing threatening letters apparently written by a current or former inmate of the asylum, unusual. (2). £140-160

  Western Australia. 1838 (Oct 25) Entire letter from York to England backstamped red boxed "INDIA LETTER / MARGATE" and a London c.d.s, charged 1/3. The writer "can spare but a few minutes as we are in the midst of shearing the sheep", and writes "the last season has been the dryest and most unfavourable we have experienced since the formation of the colony". The letter was sent by ship from York, but was retrieved at Perth as explained by a further message of November 13th - "on coming to Perth I found this had not been forwarded as the vessel has been detained to take the wool". He continues, "we expect a change very shortly in the Government as a new Governor is expected very shortly. Sir James Stirling will leave immediately that the Britomart arrives with official dispatches that he is to be removed. We have learned by way of India that a Mr Hutt has been appointed to succeed him. I hope we will find him independent and active becoming a stranger, will have no prejudice to bear him as Sir James who always took an opportunity of favouring any district in which his own land was situated". A little edge wear and central fold a little split at base but an early letter from Western Australia. £200-250
