Internal and external covers, cards and printed matter sent during the final rate period before the new currency was introduced, the stamps sold at four times face value and most items therefore franked at one quarter of the actual postage. Three items posted on the first day of the new rates comprising printed matter franked 4Md, printed matter to South Africa franked 37Md and a registered cover to South Africa franked 340Md; six further items sent on the final day of the rate period (and of the old currency) comprise postcards franked 10Md (3), cover franked 40Md (with various other earlier, and now worthless, stamps added), postcard to Belgium franked 40Md and printed matter to South Africa franked 16Md. Handstamped boxed "INDIA UNPAID" and sent back via Southampton, therefore only charged 6d, red boxed "POSTAGE NOT PAID / TO LONDON" applied upon arrival. A few small edge faults but an interesting and busy cover, well written up on an album page with shipping details showing it was carried back on the "Nubia" which broke a shaft near Galle, the mail therefore transferred to the "Bengal" which carried it from Galle to Suez.
