1746 (May 10) Entire letter from the Earl of Thomond, written from "Camp de Perck", addressed to Sir Richard Warren in Paris, with superb "ARMEE FLANDRE" handstamp. Thomond was from a famous Irish renegade family, and fought for the French; Sir Richard Warren, also an Irishman, fought as a Captain in the Franco-Irish Regiment. In 1745 he went to Scotland as a.d.c to Lord Murray and fought for the Scottish Jacobite army. He returned to France in April 1746 to try and get French support for the Jacobites, and returned to Scotland later in 1746 to bring Charles Stuart, the Young Pretender, back to France. An interesting historical letter in which Thomond tells Warren he is glad he is back from Scotland, with the rare Flanders Army handstamp, used during the War of the Austrian Succession. 1754 (Apr 29) Entire letter from Capt. John Glascoe at Bergues, addressed to "Monsieur le Chevalier de Warrenne Colonel d'Infant a Cassell en flandre" with fine "DE. BERGUE" handstamp. Warren's name was used as an alias by Charles Stuart, and this letter appears to be to the Prince himself. Glascoe writes " I received with the greatest satisfaction Your Majestys gracious favour which attribute to your many sublime & vast occupations & royal schemes which are daily engendring in Your Majestys brain ..... like a faithful subject wait with patience & an entire confidence in the benignity of Your Majestys superior capacity .... c.1760 Entire letter from London with a Dockwra backstamp, addressed to a Mr Flower in the Scottish army at Leyden, Holland, charged 12st. The letter is signed A. Temple, and talks of visiting Norway, Mr Flower possibly visiting Italy or The Hague, and Lord Portland's visit to Holland. Most of Bonnie Prince Charlie's army escaped to France after the 1745 Rebellion, and became a mercenary army, taking part in many European wars.
