Click to view full image... 1937-47 KGVI 3d - 1/- and 1951 Festival of Britain 2/6 - £1 all overprinted "SPECIMEN" (13x2mm), no gum, a little paper adhering to the reverse as though removed from an archive, the 4d - 6d and 10d stamps with a little soiling and 7d - 1/- with corner creases or wrinkles. This Specimen handstamp is unrecorded by Samuel or S.G. and the status of these stamps is therefore unknown, though they have the appearance of genuine specimen stamps removed from an archive. LYON MARS. F" c.d.s on the front, backstamped at Messina. An exceptional acceptance of a British stamp. Small part of address excised and replaced, otherwise fine and very rare. San Juan, Porto Rico. 1873 Entire to England bearing 1873 1/- plate 7 cancelled "C61" in black, most unusually with a red "PORTO RICO / PAID" c.d.s applied alongside in error and obliterated by the "C61" numeral in red ink. Two vertical file folds (the left one a little split and strengthened internally with hinges) and most of upper flap missing, still a good looking and very unusual item, possibly the only known example of the "C61" obliterator in red.   Circular Delivery Co Stamps. 1865-67 Collection written up in an album with mint issues from ten companies and a selection of forgeries, many multiples including Edinburgh & Leith 1865-66 1/4d grey-lilac imperf part sheet of 59, 1/4d dull mauve imperf blocks together forming a reconstructed sheet of sixty, 1867 1/4d red-brown imperf block of 130, Edinburgh & Leith Parcel Delivery Co 1866 2d yellow and 3d brown-red both in six imperf blocks of ten together forming reconstructed sheets of sixty, Glasgow 1/4d black and 1/2d dull scarlet imperf sheets of 66, London 1866 1/2d dull purple imperf block of 63, London & Districts perf 13 1/2d claret block of 97 (with eight stamps showing 1/4d error of value) and 1/4d green block of 100, Metropolitan 1867 1/4d rose-carmine thin paper blocks of 51 or 56, Liverpool perf 13 1/4d brown sheet of 99 and 1/2d slate-lilac block of ninety, etc. Also various college stamps (13), and written up studies of Post Office training stamps (144) and postal stationery advertising rings (15, one 1d W.H Smith ring cancelled solely by red oval framed "PD". Circular Delivery Co Stamps. 1865 "Lady's Circular" envelope bearing Edinburgh & Leith Parcel Delivery Co. 1865 rouletted 1/4d yellowish-green (CD15, fault at left) cancelled "RB&Co" monogram, the envelope endorsed by the recipient "Delivered at my house 2 Windsor Street on the 13th December 1865 closed & fastened. G. Young, 4 Decemr 1865". A rare use of the Circular Delivery Co. stamp on cover, especially with the monogram cancel. The recipients inscription suggests this was almost certainly one of the envelopes collected by the Post Office and used as evidence in their case against the Circular Delivery Companies, who were found guilty of operating an illegal postal service.
