Click to view full image...Click to view full image... 1938 (Feb 21 - Mar 7) Flying Boat" Coogee" Survey Flight from England to Singapore via the new route from Karachi to Calcutta, with eastward covers flown from Karachi to Udaipur, Lashkar or to Gwalior and then by special plane to Cawnpore (just five covers carried); Kankroli to Gwalior, Calcutta, Singapore (just four carried), Allahabad or to Gwalior and then by special plane to Cawnpore (five covers carried); Lashkar to Allahabad, Cawnpore (just two carried), Calcutta (2), Rangoon (just two carried) or Singapore (just three carried). Westward return survey flight covers comprise items flown from Calcutta to Udaipur, Gwalior (2), Baghdad via Jodhpur, Chitorgarh via Jodhpur or England; Allahabad to Gwalior or Udaipur; Lashkar to Udaipur (2), Karachi (2), Guadar, Bahrain, Baghdad, Paris, Athens or England; Udaipur to England; and Karachi to England (2). Also covers carried on the second flight from Karachi to Lashkar, Calcutta, Rangoon or Singapore. Several covers from Lashkar bear Gwalior State stamps and three covers have the scarce "Gwalior R.S Air" c.d.s rather than the usual Lashkar G.P.O datestamp. This first survey flight received little publicity; no more than 55 covers were carried on any leg with several legs carrying fewer than six covers. A superb and rare lot. (39).
