  1873 Stampless cover to England, posted at Charing Cross with a large "2d" charge mark, the enclosed letter from F.W. Otter written at Resht on the Caspian Sea. The letter tells of continuing the survey through the jungle by the road which has now been cleared for 20 miles, and includes "we shall be away a month or more & we take neither horses or mules so our tents etc must be carried by men of whom we shall require nearly 30. I shall take my rifle with me for the chance of a shot at wild boars or tigers but not my gun as in the dense jungle there seems to be no birds". An intriguing early letter, carried to England by Capt. Claton. £200-250

  1927 (July 27) Very large (39x15cm) registered front from Porto Amelia to Germany bearing twenty stamps comprising 1921 pictorial issue 1/2c - 8c and 15c - 5E with additional 6c, 7 1/2c, 8c, 20c, 40c and 50c, the three 1925 Postal Tax stamps and 30c Postal Tax due stamp (S.G. D142), each tied by Porto Amelia datestamp with a registration label applied. A spectacular franking, apparently commercial but probably also franked with a stamp collector in mind using whatever stamps still remained at the Porto Amelia Post Office at the end of the Nyassa Company's contract. A rare use of these postal tax stamps, used to pay part of the postage rate. £160-200
