1874-79 Covers with enclosed letters all from Ontario to Scotland with Small Queens issues paying rates of 5c (2, one underpaid), 6c (5) or 10c, with "GLASGOW PACKET / PAID" four line datestamp in black (2) or red "PAID / LIVERPOOL / U.S PACKET" c.d.s (3). The underpaid 1876 cover franked 5c but handstamped "OVER 1/2OZ" and "INSUFFICIENTLY PAID" and charged 7 1/2d. Interesting contents include details of the robbery of the American Express car on the train from Hamilton to Toronto, believed to have been carried out by Yankees; news of the 1876 U.S Presidential election; and news of the extreme cold in Toronto, "as a proof of the cold I will give you this instance, Jock Miles pissed in the pot and I got up about a quarter of an hour after him and it was frozen a solid cake of ice, think of that in 15 minutes". All covers a little grubby with faults to a couple of stamps. (8). £180-220
