The underpaid 1876 cover franked 5c but handstamped "OVER 1/2OZ" and "INSUFFICIENTLY PAID" and charged 7 1/2d. Interesting contents include details of the robbery of the American Express car on the train from Hamilton to Toronto, believed to have been carried out by Yankees; news of the 1876 U.S Presidential election; and news of the extreme cold in Toronto, "as a proof of the cold I will give you this instance, Jock Miles pissed in the pot and I got up about a quarter of an hour after him and it was frozen a solid cake of ice, think of that in 15 minutes".
