Marshall Islands - Japanese Occupation. 1914 Marshall Islands Yacht type 3pf - 80pf each with red seal handstamp of Paymaster K. Tamura, superb mint. Each with Ceremuga (2010) Certificate, stating "Genuine, Rare. Overprints considered to have had more of a propaganda character, rather than postal. Believed to have been produced for use on mail by the German population etc. (allowed by Japanese proclamation in Oct 1914) but mail privileges quickly withdrawn by order of higher authorities (Dec 1914).   Tuvalu. 1976 U.P.U Membership, composite essay for an unadopted issue handpainted in black and Chinese white, the U.P.U symbol of figures surrounding the globe painted on a separate piece, cut out and applied to the handpainted background, the whole essay (150x192mm) applied to thick card with size instruction below in pencil, the card 260x320mm. Also two transparent overlays with the country name, wording and value of 70c or $1. A unique and very attractive essay, from the papers of Stanley D. Scott (see lot 766), who was an artist at Harrison's when this issue was proposed. £200-250

  1885 (July 20) G.B. 1d Reply postcard uprated 1d, posted from Belfast to "British or American Commercial Agent, Christianshaab, Greenland", the similarly franked reply half (no longer attached) posted back from Copenhagen with the British stamps cancelled upon arrival in Belfast (Aug 2). The card asks about the whereabouts of a British subject who may have sailed to Greenland on a whaler; the return half is endorsed "No American or other states council is found anywhere in Greenland. Try write direct to The Chief Manager, The Greenland Commercial Office, Copenhagen". Also unused c.1930 picture postcards (2) and other 1941-85 covers and cards. (21). £150-180

Addressed "For Mrs Sinclar at the foot of the colledge wind in Goldsmiths lands in Edingburgh Scotland", backstamped with "G.C" receivers handstamp and "SE/29" Bishop Mark, charged 5d. Three "John F. Seybold, Syracuse, N.Y" cachets on reverse and a light vertical fold, otherwise fine and an extremely rare cover with good provenance. Very few covers are known with both the ½d and 1d in combination, or indeed with these stamps tied by a cancel, and both stamps tied to a cover is exceptional.
