  1938-41 Dr Sun Yat-sen third issue $5, mint imperforate multiple consisting of six uncut sheets of fifty without gum, each with two vertical folds between stamp columns 3/4 and 7/8, from the unfinished sheets looted from the Chung Hwa Book Co. printing works in Hong Kong, unusual in such a large multiple. Click to view full image... 1882 ½pi Emerald-green on Crown CC watermarked paper with small "½" surcharge essay, hinged to a piece bearing the explanatory note "The above stamp came originally from the Ferrari collection. It is said to be an essay. The stamp is watermarked Crown CC, printed in fugitive ink. The stamps were overprinted with two fractions in 1882 for general issue, but in a different type. I have never seen a similar type. A.L. Pemberton, 10th Aug. 1949". Tiny fault at top, otherwise fine, a rare and intriguing essay, not recorded in the Cyprus handbook (which contains numerous references on this issue by A.L Pemberton, a noted specialist on Cyprus), probably unique.
