  A WWII MERCHANT NAVY CASUALTY GROUP.A S S Observer (Liverpool) casualty group of four medals. Box of issue and condolence slip, named to Charles Milton Roberts. 1939/45-Atlantic-Africa-War Medals, all unnamed as issued.The son of Charles Henry and Mary Beatrice Roberts aged 20, of 18 Trinity Rd, Hoylake, Wirral, Cheshire. The box is addressed to the parent at the family home.Commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial. The ship was lost on the 16/12/1942.She was Torpedoed Off Cape Sao Roque by the U 176, with the loss of 66 of her 81 Crew Members, under cargo.U 176 sunk 11 ships (53,000 Tons) prior to being sunk herself in May 1943, by the Cuban Navy. Her Commander Reiner Dierkson was posthumously awarded the German Cross in Gold (January 1944)£60-80

1939/45 & Pacific Stars, War Medal in a box of issue with address removed. Inset in the lid is 557334 Pte Alfred Douglas Bryant, 4th Bn The Royal Norfolk Regiment. KIA 21/6/1943. Kanchaniaburi War Cemetery Thialand. (Thailand) Plot 2 Row 1 Grave 76.The KIA details are actually unlikely, more so Died of Disease amid the torrid conditions of those building the Burma Railway. Presumably captured at Hong Kong, he survived for over two years. (Pacific Medal)The Cemetery is full of men recovered from their Railside Graves, brought together in this and other post war burials/recovered victims. The Cemetery is near to the infamous Kanburi Camp, where POW's were sent out on work details. Over 13,000 were to lose their lives, on the Death Railway.Condolence slip reads Pte A D Bryant.Parents were Alfred Francis and Alma Bryant of Wilton, Wiltshire.Also a War Medal in a box of issue, sent to A Y Bryant (Miss) RAF. Addressed to her at 8, The Avenue, Wilton, Salibury, Wilts. (Sister?)£70-100

  A DORSET REGT W W II 'REICHSWALD' CASUALTY GROUP (4).A 1939/45-France & Germany, Defence & War Medal group, to a Pte in the 4th Battalion the Dorsetshire Regt. During the last days of Germany's armies to hold the Reichswald Forest. Condolence Slip named to Pte E Luffman KIA 15th February 1945.Aged 29 years, 500968 Pte Edwin Charles Luffman. There is an Italy Star with the medals, though the slip states only four.The son of Edwin Charles Frederick and Blodwin Luffman, husband of Mrs Dora May Luffman of Bournemouth Hampshire. Later remarried and became Mrs D Sleeman, 639 Charminster Rd, Bournemouth, Hants. (BOI addressed thus when sent.)Killed during the advance and hard fighting in the Reichswald Forest advance.With the original slip sent from the Records Office, Exeter, to Mrs Luffman stating Killed in Action Western Europe 15 February 1945. Also a photograph of his grave.£60-80

A silver heart shaped medal 'Our Dumb Friends League.' A Society for the encouragement of kindness to animals obverse legend. On a bar suspender and red ribbon, with a Horse, Dog etc obverse. Engraved on the reverse 'Awarded to Police Constable Harry Coles. In recognition of His humane work on behalf of animals, during 25 years service in The Metropolitan Police Force May 1916'. W.O.L (maker) and Birmingham 1911 hallmarks. A silver circular medal with 'The Animals Friend' top bar, 1000 cases of cruelty to Horses in 21 years, engraved on the suspender bar. A 19thC CONNAUGHT RANGERS RAMS HORN SNUFF MULL.A rams horn Snuff Mull decorated with emblems of England, Scotland and Ireland in Rose - Thistle- Connaught Rangers badge forms. Rams head and cloven foot front mount, snuff rake and spoon attached by chains. No visible hallmarks evident, cap inset with damaged oval polished agate stone. Hardly legible early inscription reads 'from ....K Campbell...to 2 Batt. A plate on the horns curve reads, 'From officers of the 2nd Batt 88th Reg to Officers of the 1st Battalion'. Height 6.1/4" and length of 10.1/4"With an original book 'The History of The Mess Plate of the Connaught Rangers' by Captain H F N Jourdain MDCCCCIV (1904). This includes a description of, A Snuff-Horn. After a full page of description and notations, it states: This horn was presented in the first instance by Paymaster Campbell to the 2nd Battalion 88th Regt, and was then presented to the 1st Battalion 88th Regiment when the 2nd battalion was disbanded at Clare Castle in 1816 etc.£500-600
