A notation states Victory & War Medals retd (Deserted)Further research is apparently warranted, given these details stated.£120-150

He transferred to the Royal Engineers in May 1916, with whom he was awarded his Meritorius Service Medal.He resided in Manchester and his MSM was awarded on page 12764 Gazette 31602 14th October 1919.£180-220

A Kings South Africa Medal with bars South Africa 1901 & S Africa 1902, named to 3469 Pte O Cowan S. Lanc. Regt. A 1914 Star and Bar, named to 3031 Pte O Cowan 2/ S:Lanc:R. British War & VIctory Medals, named to 3031 Pte O Cowan S.Lan.R.Oswald Cowan was wounded in the Boer War at Pieters Hill on the 27th February 1900. He later served with his Regiment after he recovered from his wound, returning home to 50 Tweed St, West Derby Rd, Liverpool.He rejoined his Regiment as 3031 attesting at Liverpool, in September 1914, His profession given as Policeman. He served in France from October 1914.He transferred to the Military Police in February 1917. His address upon returning to Civilian Life, is the same as above and latterly 04/10/1938. (MIC) detailsHe is also entitled to a Silver War Badge under List MPC/83. He appears to have been invalided out in 1918, rejoining the Chief Constable Liverpool Police. It would seem he was wounded in both wars, during his services.£250-300

A DEVONS 1914 CASUALTY TRIO & PLAQUE.A framed 1914 Star & Bar, British War & Victory Medals, named to 9708 Pte W R Clarke 1/Devn.R.Private Walter Reginald Clarke was born, educated and enlisted at Honiton. Devon. Proceeding to France with the 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, on the 22nd August 1914.He was Killed in Action 27th October 1914. The Battle of Festubert, where his Battalion was to suffer many casualties. Very few of the Officers who landed with the Battalion in September, remained with them.Pte Clarke was the brother of Gertrude Clarke of 38 Bathwick Street, Bath.Aged 20 years old, buried in Plot 3, Row A, Grave 16 in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. France.With the Kings Letter and photocopied details.£250-300

  A LION OF LUCERNE PLAQUE.A cast iron plaque of 4.1/2" diameter, depicting the famous Lion of Lucerne monument, in Switzerland. The monument was hewn in 1820-21, to commemorate the bravery of the Swiss Guards in the French Revolution. Defending Louis XVI and his family from the 'mob', at Tuileries Palace in 1791.Over six hundred Guards died at the stand, some 200 more were massacred in Prison, during the September 1791 riots and stormings.Their bravery and devotion to duty, were immortalised in the monument itself. The designer/producer of the plaque was Schwegler SC.£60-80

(High Wycombe)Part of the 10th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, the Bucks Yeomanry sent two contingents of 120 men at a time. A L/Cpl E Smeaton is listed as being accidentally wounded in the action at Wonderfontein 11th June 1901. On this day the Company had Pte Lucas KIA, L Sjt Gillham Wounded (Since Died). Privates Povey & Britwell slightly wounded, also Pte Healy injured.£80-120

  A PISANELLO MEDALLION.An 8.4cm diameter medallion bearing the date 1447, by the artist Pisanello. The scene entitled Innocence and the Unicorn, is depicted on this one sided bronze medallion. Celebrating the 'Virtuous Virgin' Cecilia Gonzaga who rejecting at 19 a marriage, entered a Monastery (1445) where she died aged 25 years old, six years later. (1426-51). Virtue herself taming a Unicorn, which has the hairy body of a goat, symbolizing great knowledge.£60-100

Born in 1887 he served for 4 years and 297 days, before being demobilized in July 1919. It does list him as entitled to a 1914/15 Star on his details of service.
