  A 19thC CEREMONIAL-MASONIC DAGGER.With a brass Skeleton in a shroud cast hilt, with a snake at its feet and flat quillion. Double edged foilage pattern etched blade with two full and one partial fuller, some 11.1/4" long. Brass ornately decorated scabbard mounts, upon wood and leather base. All the mounts show traces of gilding, when made.£200-300

Click to view full image... A LARGE TOTOKAI WAR CLUB.A Fijian Totokai War Club of large proportions, with deep patina. The 'Birds Beak' is decorated with the design of the Pandarens tree, over 6" in diameter. The spike itself is almost 5" long, the shaft diameter near the head is over 7" in girth. Almost 35" long overall with mushroom shaped base at the plain grip, lacking some of its edging. The patina of dark brown-reddish hue, highlights the woods various patterns of growth etc. Clubs of this size were normally the property of Tribal Leaders and sometimes buried with the Chieftain who carried them.£2000-3000

Click to view full image... A POLYNESIAN ISLANDS PADDLE CLUB.An intricately carved Paddle Club, with leaf shaped blade. Geometric designs which include figures (4) and other inset designs to the damaged club head. The shaft shows an attempt to repair a natural fault in the hardwood used. Spine and cross member are raised on the shaft/head, the flared pommel is pierced for a cord or the suchlike retainer to the wrist. 13" paddle head with 5" width, both edges having lost their original dimensions. A crack is also evident, from natural aging or usage. 41.1/4" overall length.£1200-1500

Educated at Rossall, 2nd Battn Leicestershire Regt. Shot in the head whilst returning, from a night time sortie near Bethune in October 1914. The second of 102" height with again four mask steps and mythical beast top carving. Both were probably early to mid 20thC, the Ironwood causing them to be extremely heavy.£400-600

Collected from the San Juan area and Islands near to Northern California and Vancouver etc. Collected in the early/mid 20thC by a boy who spent his summer vacations, exploring the area. The axe or Tomahawk head shaped from a dark stone. An obsidian or black stone spear tip, various arrowheads for hunting etc.£200-300

On the steel action with sliding safety is the first named, on the hammer conversion the latter. Chequered butt with steel furniture, 6.3/4" octagonal barrel with Crown over CP and R over I & J above a Crown over V. 12.1/4" overall length.J & W Richards are recorded as working at Staining Lane, London between 1808 & 1810.£300-350

  ADMIRAL A W ACLAND-HOOD MEMORABILIA.Two naval trunks with brass plates or labels denoting they are the property of Arthur William Acland-Hood RN. Both mid 19thC in origin, with the cap worn by Captain A W A Hood, in the Second Opium War. Whilst Captain of HMS Acorn a small Gunboat on the China Station. The old label inside the cap reads, 'To be taken great care of'. Cap worn by Captain Arthur William Acland Hood RN. (Afterwards Baron Hood of Avalon) In the China War in 1857. Complete with Victorian officers badge, also a Stohwasser & Winter of 39 Conduit Street, London W, label.With this lot is a part of an explosive device, it appears an early Chinese underwater 'Torpedo'. The label on the wooden block with nails and a brass wheeled device reads. 'Part of the Infernal machine which exploded within 20 yards of HMS Acorn, in the Canton River on May 3rd 1857. The machine contained two tons of powder and was guided under water by means of large rings shipped along a Bamboo cable & guided on each side of the river by men with guide lines concealed by the high banks, the Guard Boat was leaving HMS Acorn at 4:00 am and moving accidentally in the direction of the men guiding the machine. They fancied they were discovered and pulled the trigger line a moment too soon and no damage was done by the explosion. Arthur Hood who commanded the Acorn so wrote'. (Just under 13" long 4" wide and 1.1/2" deep.)Silvered buttons with the Hood Crest, also Naval officers buttons. The smaller crested buttons are mostly on cards, all are a walking bird with anchor background, the sets and loose examples number around 200 in total.Also with this lot are two artefact's from Pompei in 1896, one with part of a mosaic the other in marble. Both have labels and dates of collection noted.Arthur William Acland Hood born 18/7/1824, in Bath Somerset. Died in Glastonbury (Butleigh) Somerset 16/11/1901, aged 77 years.Served in the Royal Navy from 1836 until 1889, retiring aged 65 years, as 1st Naval Lord.Took part in the Capture of Acre in November 1840, Lieutenant in January 1846. Served on the Cape of Good Hope in HMS Excellent.Served in the Crimea War including the Defence of Eupotoria in November 1854. Awarded the Order of Medjidie 5th Class.Served on the China Station in HMS Acorn from May 1856. Took part in the Battle of Fashtan Creek against the Junks in June 1857. Thence the Battle of Canton in December 1857.Promoted Captain in February 1858.Rear admiral 2nd Naval Lord March 1876. C in C Channel Squadron.
1st Naval Lord awarded KCB 1886.Retired aged 65 Baron Hood of Avalon 1889.He married in 1855 Fanny Henrietta MacLean, they had two daughters.A Brass Desk Plaque presented to his wife Lady Hood inset in an oak frame.Celebrating the launch by her, of HMS Trafalgar September 1887. With details of both tonnage and horse power etc. 8.1/2" x 6", with other lesser artefact's.£200-300

  A TORBRIAND ISLANDS CLUB.A large Massim tribe Sword Club, with carved decoration and an old inventory number 856. 28" in length and 5.1/2" at its widest poing. The hardwood has retained a good patina, there is some loss of the pommel carvings to one side only. Swirl patterns are some 7.1/2" from the tip on both sides, also a similar area some quarter way along the blade of 18.1/4" in length. Primarily to cover the natural flaw in the wood.£200-300

  AN 18thC GENTLEMAN'S SMALLSWORD.A silver mounted gentleman's smallsword with a rapier type triangular blade of 32.1/2" in length. The ornate stirrup hilt and partial guard, lacks the silver wire to it's wooden grip. Hallmarks W.K and Year letter for (1774) are on the quillions, W.K (William Kinman a listed silver hilt maker) and the lion are on the damaged guard. The throat silver mount of the missing scabbard is on the blade, Bennett Royal Exchange is punched on it.John Bennett of the Royal Exchange, known for fine Flintlock Pistols and high standards of workmanship.   A NAVIGATORS MAP & LOG FOR A RAID IN MARCH 1945.A 33" x 30" Navigators Map with route and destination clearly marked, dated 15th/16th March 1945. It was recorded for the raid by 107 Squadron Lancasters on Nuremberg, having taken off from Hemswell. A Mark III Lancaster number ME 496 Squadron Code TC & K.Flown by a different crew the following night on a similar raid, the same aircraft was shotdown by night fighters, near Furth. Only three of the crew survived, having safely parachuted to become Prisoners of War.£100-150

Exceptionally clean slightly curved, plated 30.3/4" blade with makers mark WKC. This is partially hidden by the gilt langets, one of which has crossed cannon decoration. Ornately decorated stirrup hilt of Lions Mane and acorns etc, swept forward quillion with again a Lions Mask. Nickel finish scabbard with twin hanging loops, the plating is also in very good condition.£180-220
