1932 (June 13) Sydney to Stuart Town via Bourke, flight in the all Australian designed and built Jones monoplane "Wonga" flown by Roy Mitchell and the designer L.J.R. Jones, cover franked 1d posted upon arrival at Stuart Town, signed by Jones, with a photo of Mitchell and Jones in front of the aeroplane. The plane crashed three days later killing Mitchell and his passenger Arthur Barnes. Very scarce, just 10 covers carried. AAMC 269, $600. Photo on page 101. £200-250

1935 (Sep 5) Darwin to Alice Springs crash at Aileron, the recovered mail taken by land to Alice Springs and then flown to Adelaide in a relief plane piloted by H. Boston, the cover signed "H. Boston, VH - VII D.H. Moth" with Adelaide arrival backstamp of Sep. 11th. 1935 (Oct 2) Cover from Melbourne to Hobart franked 1/1, the cover and stamps water damaged, bearing explanatory label "RECOVERED FROM AIR-LINER "LOINA" / IN SATURATED CONDITION", with Hobart backstamp (Oct 6). The Holyman Airways D.H. "Loina" flying from Melbourne to Whitemark crashed into the sea near Flinders Island killing all five people on board. 301 Letters were recovered on October 4th and dried, a variety of explanatory labels being applied (this label unlisted by Nierinck).
