Click to view full image... A BRONZE RFC OBSERVERS (BOHME's-11th) MEMORIAL PLAQUE. A Memorial or Death Plaque named to George William Bathurst Bradford, who was shotdown by the German Ace Erwin Bohme. Attached to 15 Squadron from the 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was Bohme's (11th Kill) and his second victim on the 4th February 1917. Bohme had returned early from leave, upon hearing of his Jasta's losses. George W B Bradford was the son of Lora Bradford of 32 Park Road, Kimberley, South Africa. Born in 1895, he enlisted in the 1st South African Infantry as Private 3901. His brother Francis Keysall Bradford served in both Wars, in the 3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles. In 1942 he died in Burma, commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial. The husband of Mrs A L Bradford, the daughter of Brig- General H G Lloyd CMG. DSO. They lived at Mooi River, Natal, S Africa. In George W B Bradfords will he left £171:16s- 6d to be handled by his Attorney, Charles Cyril Bradford, to his mother. A descendant of among others Richard and Anne W Woodygate, also William Keysall Bradford. Erwin Bohme was the protege of Boelcke with whom he collided in 1916 during aerial action. Boelcke the darling of the fledgling German Air Force, lost his life in the ensuing crash. G W B Bradford was an Observer in a BE2E No 7105 from (15 Sqdn), his Pilot was Sjt Frederick James Shaw, when shotdown over Hebuterne France around 15:30 hrs. They were on a Recce or Offensive Patrol, now commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. Ernst Bohme credited with 24 Kills was himself shotdown in flames, by Captain John Patten RFC and Lt Phililp Leycester observer RFC. Polished but very much legible, in its card cover. £80-120

A 1784 dated Ecu with heavy scratch marks evident around the legend on both faces, 29 grams with horizontal mace below bust, Q below shield reverse. A Louis XVI Ecu dated 1786 with horizontal mace below bust, scratches evident to obverse and reverse, 29.3 grams, with Bull below the shield reverse. A Ecu of Louis XVI dated 1790 with a branch below bust. Heavy scratches to the bust and L below the shield. 29.2 grams. £200-300

  A RIFLE BRIGADE TRIO. A 1914/15 Star named to B-727 Pte C Lloyd Rif: Brig. British War & Victory medals named to B-727 C.Sgt C Lloyd Rif Brig. Charles Lloyd served in the Rifle Brigade in France from the 20th May 1915 onwards. A 1920 dated official postcard addressed to B727 C.Q.M.S of the Rifle Brigade, address C Lloyd 23 Stockwell Green, London SW, is with this mounted for wear trio. Also Rifle Brigade (Green Jackets) Sergeants Stripes and whistle cord and original Cap Badge. Together with a handwritten memo stating C Q M Sergeant Lloyd had handed in his complete uniform to stores. £80-100

Click to view full image... MEDALS/PLAQUE TO BROTHERS INCLUDING AN AIF CASUALTY. A 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory medals named to 2049 Pte L Wood A.I.F. Inset in a glazed frame with a Death Plaque named to Leofric Wood, also an original photograph inscribed with his name etc . Kings letter on the reverse of the frame and partial official letter stating he died of Dysentery whilst serving in the 11th Battalion AIF. Dated 7th August 1915 from his officer Commanding, then later date Melbourne 20th February 1916. With this group is a framed document with inset photograph, of the details of his life and subsequent death in service. Leofric was one of the four sons of Mr & Mrs Frederic Wood of Wrington, who served in the colours. His brother Dubric was serving in the RE as a Motorcycle Despatch rider, before being commissioned. His brother Godric a Despatch Rider in the 10th RE Signal Coy. Finally Wilbric who was undertaking an Officer Training Course, when Leofric died. (Dubrics medals etc are with this group) He left his employment at British Imperial Tobacco Co, having been educated at Clarence School Weston Super Mare, to enjoy an open air life in Australia. Leaving from Avonmouth in April 1912, he landed in Western Australia to stay with his brother who was already there. Enlisting in Perth he started his Army Training in January 1915, sailing from Freemantle with the 11th battalion 3rd Brigade of Australian Forces. Landing first in Cairo at the end of May, he landed with his Battalion on the Gallipoli Peninsula on the 15th June. They received a letter from him in July which was published showing his Vim for life and adventure. All his parents learnt was that he died in August from Dysentery. The document has been pared down for this description. He is commemorated on Panel 34, of the Lone Pine Memorial. Aged 20 years. A 1914 Star and Bar named to 28242 Cpl D Wood R.E. British War & Victory Medals named to Lieut D Wood. Also his Commission Scroll dated 1st April 1916. A University of Oxford scroll named to Dubric Wood stating, born 10th November 1889, passed the Oxford Local Examination in the year 1905. His MIC states serving in the 8th M/Cycle Coy in France from 12/9/1914. Commissioned Lt he claimed his medals in 1920, still living at Wrington nr Bristol. £300-400

Click to view full image... A FT SURGEON'S TRIO WHO WAS KIA AT JUTLAND ON HMS INVINCIBLE. A 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory Medals named to Ft Surgeon W J Bearblock RN. Walter James Bearblock MRCS LRCP was the son of Charles and Emma Louise Bearlock of Stoke, Devonport. The husband of Kathleen Bearblock of Wymondham Norfolk. He was Killed in Action on the 31st May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland, whilst serving aboard HMS Invincible. Of the 1206 crew of Officers & Men, there were only six survivors after a shell pierced a gun turret and exploded the magazines. He was born in 1866 and attended Kings College and Guys Hospital. He was Assistant House Surgeon at the Royal Albert Hospital, Devonport. He received his rank of Fleet Surgeon in 1905. In the Battle of The Falkland Islands on December 8th 1914, he was Mentioned in Despatches by Captain Beamish. HMS Invincible Officers & Men for Services in the Falkland Islands Action 8/12/1914: Ft Surgeon W J Bearblock who quickly met the emergency of dealing with 94 survivors from the Gneisenau and undoubtedly saved many of their lives by his skill and organisation. In 1912 he served on HMS Bellerophon. There is a plaque in St Andrews Church, High Street, Hornchurch, Essex for both Walter Bearblock and another for his nephew Charles Henry Bearblock. DOW 9th Battalion Essex Regt 20th October 1915. The son of Charles W J Bearblock and Annie, aged 22 years. Sacred to the memory of Walter James Bearblock MRCS. LRCP, Fleet Surgeon. Royal Navy. Killed in Action 31st May 1916 when HMS Invincible was sunk in the victory off the coast of Jutland. He was present in the same ship on the 8th Decmber 1914 during the successful Battle of the Falkland Islands. A loyal and affectionate husband, son, and brother. Thine Lord is the Victory. £250-350

  A 1914/15 TRIO TO A PAYMASTER-COMMANDER RN. A 1914/15 Star named to Ft Paymaster E A Dennys RN. British War & Victory Medals named to Payr.Cmmr E A Dennys RN. Also a mounted group of matching miniatures for wear. Edward Allen Dennys is confirmed on the Naval roll as being awarded a 1914/15 Star trio, issued at T E Shotley. Shown as serving on HMS Inflexible in August 1911. In 1913 Ft Paymaster serving on HMS Zealandia. Paymaster Commander in 1918 serving on HMS Inflexible. He retired with the rank of Paymaster Captain in 1922. HMS Inflexible a Battle Cruiser saw action at the Battle of the Falkland Islands, avenging the defeat off Coronel. Later saw action at Gallipoli and again at Jutland, scrapped in 1921. £70-100

A two bar Egypt 1884 Medal with bars El-Teb-Tamaai and The Nile 1884-85, named to Lieut H G Marsh 19/Hussars. A Queens South Africa with ghost dated reverse and bar Defence of Ladysmith, named to Major H G Marsh 19/Hrs. Harry Graham Marsh was born on the 5th April 1861. 2/Lt on the 9th July 1882. Major 7th February 1897. Retired 5th June 1901. War Services show he served in the Egyptian Expedition 1884. Soudan Battle of El Teb Tamaai. Soudan 1884-85 Nile Clasp and entitled to a Khedives Star. South African War including actions at Reitfontein and Lombards Kop. Queens South Africa Medal with clasp Defence of Ladysmith. During the Gt War he was 2nd I/C 14th Reserve Cavalry Regt. (Act Lt/Col) Educated at Lancing College. Both medals court mounted for wear, presumably the Khedives 1884 Star (issued unnamed) was mounted separately to these two medals. Harry Marsh's only son was Killed in the Great War, Philip Everard Graham Marsh MC,was Killed on the 20th December 1918. He was awarded the Military Cross in the Kings Birthday Honours Gazette 2/6/1916. Gazette Issue 29608. Also educated at Lancing College. A superb photograph of P E G Marsh appears in the Lancing Roll. It states Killed whilst Flying in England, 7th Reserve Training Squadron. His plaque is in St Mary Magdelene Church in Wethersfield Essex. In loving memory of Philip Everard Graham Marsh, only son of Major H G Marsh of this parish. Husband of Eileen Ruth daughter of George Campbell Macochy. Killed in a collision whilst flying on duty at Feltwell Norfolk aged 24 years. From Sandhurst to the ASC, where he served for 3 1/2 years in France. (Flying Instructor). £700-800
