Born in Lewisham London 32604 Pte R Chable resided in the Maison Lafitte, Seine Et Oise, France. Killed in Action 9/10/1917, he is commemorated on Panels 23-28 & 163A the Tyne Cot Memorial. £50-70

  AN HMS MONMOUTH DEATH PLAQUE. A Death Plaque named to Charles Tincknell, who was an Able Seaman serving on the Cruiser HMS Monmouth at the Battel of Coronel. Mostly reservists were called up on August 4th 1914, to serve on the Cruiser of some 10.000 tons. 17265 A/B Charles Ticknell a 21 year old native of East Bower Bridgwater Somerset, was Killed in Action when the ship was sunk on the 1st November 1914 with all hands lost. (735 Officers and Men) Charles was the only son of William & Eliza Jane Tincknell of Middle Street, Brent Knoll, Highbridge, Somerset. The Royal Navy avenged this defeat a few weeks later in the Battle of the Falkland Islands. £50-70

A S Rowley R.Fus. Alfred S Rowley served with the 4th London Regiment in France from 18th August 1914. He would have presumably taken part in the Battles of Mons, where the first two VC's of the war, were won by Lt Maurice Dease and Private Sidney Godley. The Regiment also took part in the Battles of Le Cateau, 1st Marne, The Aisne, La Bassee and 1st Ypres. Alfred Rowley also was attached to the R Sussex Regt as a A/Cpl under Number L/12917. £120-150

  A 1st KINGS SHROPSHIRE L I 1914 STAR/BAR TRIO. A 1914 Star with bar, British War & Victory Medals named to 8184 Pte W Owen 1/Shrops LI on the star, Shrops LI on the latter two. William Owen enlisted in the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry in 1906, being a labourer in a Tile Factory prior to that. He was born at Coalport Shropshire, aged 20 years and 4 months he signed on into the Regular Army for 7 years. From his Regimental Court Martials and Defaulters appearances he appears to have been drunk or absent on several occasions. On one such occasion he also threatened an NCO with violence. Another was being drunk on Guard while on active service. He served in India from February 1907 until the 19th March 1913. Then France from the 9th September 1914 until the 1st July 1915. Then in Salonika and Macedonia from the 7th November 1915 until the 15th December 1918. Finally in South Russia from the 16th December 1918 until the 16th April 1919 There are many photocopied details of his service and trials with the KSLI in civilian and wartime posts, etc £120-150

  A R WARKS 1914 STAR/BAR TRIO & SWB. A 1914 Star with bar also British War & Victory Medals named to 1964 Pte Z Sambrook R. Wark.R. Zealer Sambrook served with his regiment in France from the 22nd of August 1914. Wounded and discharged with a Silver Wound Badge under Paragraph 392 Wounds. He enlisted in January 1912 and was invalided out on the 1st June 1916, from wounds received during overseas service. A SWB with enamel decoration and R Warks Cap Badge are with the trio, also copied details. £120-150

  A 1914 STAR/BAR TRIO 1st NORTHAMPTONSHIRE YEOMANRY. A 1914 Star & Bar, British War & Victory Medals also a Defence Medal, the first three named to 145055 Pte L Fleckner 1/1 North'N Yeo on the Star, T L Fleckner on the pair. 145055 Pte Thomas Leonard Fleckner enlisted at Northampton on the 11th December 1911. Proceeded to France on the 6th November 1914 and was then discharged as being no longer physically fit after 6 Years and 101 Days in the colours. 2 Years and 241 Days were served in France There are two MIC for Leo and Thomas Leonard Fleckner, one of which shows his award of a Silver Wound Badge on list CC 344 Living at 25 Stanger Rd, Norwood, London in 1937 where he presumably did Home Guard duties in WWII. With various original paperwork and Character/Discharge Certificates. £150-180

A Delhi Durbar 1911 unofficially named to 89 Pte W Russell R Highrs. A Death Plaque named to William Russell. William Russell was the son of John Russell and husband of Catherine MacMillan Russell, both residing at 169 Baldridgeburn Road, Dunfermline, Scotland. He Died of Wounds received in France on the 15th October 1914, having served there since the the 13th August 1914. His Delhi Durbar Medal is confirmed on the Forces site details. £300-400

  A 1914 STAR SOMERSET L I CASUALTY TRIO. A 1914 Star, British War & Victory Medals named to 3/6205 Pte C M Hall Som LI. Charles Martin Hall was serving in France from September 1914, it is not recorded on his MIC details if his widow ever applied for the bar if he was so entitled. A native of Weston Super Mare they were living at 155 Kenn Road, Clevedon, Somerset, when he was Killed in Action on the 9th April 1917. £150-180

  A GRENADIER GUARDS OFFICERS STAR/BAR & MID TRIO. A 1914 Star with Bar named to Lieut T E R Symonds G.Gds. British War & Victory Medals named to Captain T E R Symonds. he was Mentioned in Despatches during the Gt War, retiring from the Guards with Ill Health in 1923 as a Brevet Major. He had served in France & Flanders from the 4th October 1914, invalided home and later attached Staff Corps. T E R Symons was educated at Eton C1906. He was in E L Vaughans House. He joined the Grenadier Guards in 1910 and was promoted Lieutenant in 1912, Captain 1915 and Bt Major in 1919. He was ADC to the Governor and Commander in Chief of the Dominion of New Zealand. The family had historic ties to Mynde Park, Herefordshire. His ancestor purchased it in 1740, Thomas Edward Raymond Symonds the only son of Captain T R S Symonds and the last male heir, died unmarried in 1928 of cancer at the age of 33. The property was recently on the market with 1,200 acres, at £15,000,000 the then asking price. With copies of his Funeral report and various informative letters from Guards Officers including a good photograph of him and two other serving officers, etc. £300-400

Click to view full image... A ROYAL FUSILIERS DCM MONS STAR/BAR TRIO (MID) GROUP (4) A George V Distinguished Conduct Medal named to L-11154 Sjt P Garrod 1/R Fus. A 1914 Star with Bar named to L-11154 Pte P Garrod 1/R Fus. British War & Victory Medals, the latter with MID Oakleaf named to L-11154 Sjt P Garrod R Fus. Percy Garrod served in France from the 8th November 1914 and would have appeared to be in almost immediate action. His MIC details confirm his entitlement to both Star and Bar plus Roses. His Mention in Despatches was in the London Gazette of the 22nd May 1917 Volume 30086 and page 5026. His Distinguished Conduct Medal was in the London Gazette on the 1st January 1918. His Home Town is shown as Stevenage. His Citation reads; For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his platoon officer became a casualty during an attack he took command of the platoon, and led it with great ability under heavy fire. He has rendered valuable service during a very long period, and has always set a magnificent example of courage and devotion to duty to his men (7th April 1918) £1300-1500

British War & Victory Medals named to 1. 17914 Pte J E Snow Som LI (John). 2. 200200 Pte L G Bedggood Tank Corps. Leslie Gordon Bedggood (or Bedgood) gave his NOK as his Mother at 30 Risingholme Rd, Maidstone? Middlesex. He was posted to the 13th Battalion Tank Corps in March 1918. Photocopied details are with the medals. £100-150

A George V Distinguished Order awarded to Major William Buchanan Ritchie in the London Gazette dated 18th February 1915. A 1914 Star and bar named to Captain W B Ritchie S. Lan. R. British War & Victory Medals named to Lt Col W B Ritchie. The latter with Oakleaf emblem on the ribbon. William B Ritchie was the youngest son of Major J Ritchie who also served in the Prince of Wales Own South Lancashire Regt. Commissioned into the Regiment aged 21 years in 1899, his first service abroad was in France from the 14th August 1914. Mentioned in Despatches for his actions during the Retreat from Mons, in the 19th October 1914 edition of the London Gazette. His Distinguished Service Order was awarded in the London Gazette of the 18th February 1915. 'For services in connection with operations in the field.' Again Mentioned in Despatches on the 4th January 1917. Major Ritchie was Invalided home in October 1914, after his DSO recommendation was put forward for his rearguard action during the retreat. He later took part in The Battle of The Somme in 1916. Again invalided home in 1917, he again returned to the Front until the Armistice. After the War he also served for two years in Ireland, thence Egypt and India. His death aged 59 years was reported in the Gloucestershire Echo on the front page of the 13th September 1937 edition. The death took place at his home at 'Halfacre' Leckhampton of Colonel Willaim Buchanan Ritchies DSO late the Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire Regt). Colonel ritchie was the youngest son of the late Major J Ritchie S Lancs Regt. Colonel Ritchie commenced a long and distinguished army career in 1899 when he joined The Prince of Wales Volunteers at 21. His promotion was rapid Captain 1904, Major in 1914, Lt Col 1921 and Colonel 1927. He went to France with the British Expeditionary Force on the outbreak of war and took part in the retreat from Mons. He was mentioned in despatches and invested with the Distinguished Service Order for a part he took in a rearguard action. In October 1914 he was invalided home but took command of and trained a service Battalion which he subsequently took to France in 1916 and took part in the Battle of the Somme. He remained in France on active service when once more he was invalided home. He returned to France in 1918 and remained there until the armistice. He served for two years as second in commandof the 1st battalion of the Prince of Wales Volunteers. In 1921 he commanded the 2nd Battalion of the regiment. After services in Egypt and India he returned to the UK, and was offered command of the South Staffordshire Territorial Brigade but ill health forced him to refuse the opportunity. Shortly afterwards he retired from the army. In April 1914 Colonel Richie married Ethel youngest daughter of the late Mr J D MacVicar MA who lived in Cheltenham for many years. Colonel Ritchie has lived in Cheltenham since his retirement in 1927. He was Secreatry of the Leckhampton Branch Conservative Association. Born the 16th September 1877, he joined the 9th Battalion Rifle Brigade as a junior. After service in the Militia he joined the South Lancs Regt 25/2/1899. He was firstly with the 2nd Battalion POW Volunteers, then commanded the 11th Battalion from April 1916 until 27th November 1917 Again with the 2nd Battalion in Egypt and India. Included with copied photographs and career details etc, is a copy of him with King George V inspecting the Depot at Shoreham in 1927. In Sir John French's despatches he states the Battle of the Aisne 5th-23rd of September Captain W B Ritchie South Lancashire Regt (most senior officer mentioned from the Regiment in that Gazette). £1800-2200
