A piece with a similar bisect and 1862 1c chrome yellow, good mint. 5c tied by signature to Bill of Lading document for five bars of silver.   BI-COLOURED ISSUES, 1870-1905: Album & several small stockbooks housing the comprehensive study of mainly used bi-coloured types. Skilling values well represented inc. 2sk (11), 3sk (7), 4sk (31), 8sk (7) & 16sk (4) then many 100's of later ore values. Stamps in the album are clearly identified by printing date and plate position, with a wide variety of minor flaws, frame types and inverted watermarks. The stockbooks hold a further accumulation of duplicated issues of same, and include a further quantity of skilling & ore values. Very mixed condition throughout, but main value is in several dozen 1851-54 issues to 16 skilling, with both "Ferslew" & "Thiele" printings, inc. a 3-margin 2 R.B.S. Issues up to 1930s with a wide range of "inverted frame" varieties of the "bi-colour" series, both skilling & ore values with many later issues in blocks/multiples. We note a remarkable used block of 40 of the 1875-1903 100 ore value. Also a small collection of Danish West Indies in similar poor condition, but noting 1887 (May) 1c on 7c provisional used pair, one stamp showing "frame inverted" variety & "1" omitted (unlisted & very rare), but sadly, has a corner defect. Also, a local cover dated 27th Jan. 1903 bearing the bisected 4c issue of 1896-1902 (first week of usage?) and a few low-value Iceland issues. COVER EX US CONSULATE, ST.THOMAS TO PORTLAND, MAINE: 12th Mar. 1896 cover in fair condition, bearing six (appears to be a strip of four plus a pair) 1895 10c on 50c surcharge issues, SG 38. with St. Thomas cancels. The first stamp shows a "broken 0" in the "10", and the 5th stamp shows a "broken E" in "CENTS". A red oval cachet of 'Bache & Co, Ship Brokers' is present on the front and repeated on the reverse along with a 'twin-circle' type New York receiving cancel of 20th Mar. 1896. The Facit catalogue value of a single stamp on commercial cover is 4.000 S.Kr. A most unusual item. PHOTO - see page 42. £300
