Francis Chichester flew from New Zealand to Norfolk Island and onto Lord Howe Island where he landed on 1st April; his plane was subsequently damaged in a typhoon and was not repaired until 6th June when he left for Australia carrying the mail originally posted in Norfolk Island as well as approximately 120 covers posted in Lord Howe Island. Both covers are addressed to Canada and bear differing cachets signed by Francis Chichester. 145 Covers were flown from Thursday Island and 872 covers from Manila, although many of these 872 covers were destroyed when the plane crashed at Katsuura, Japan.
