  1842-56 Entire letters (2), entire and covers (3) all from abroad, all bearing 1d reds, comprising 1842 entire from Brussels with 1d imperf pair, uncancelled but clearly belongs (one crossed by a file fold), charged 2/8; 1843 cover from Jamaica with "PACKET LETTER" handstamp, 1844 letter from France and 1850 cover returned from Austria all redirected with imperf 1d reds; 1854 letter from USA redirected at Liverpool with 1d stars pair (cover faults); and 1856 cover from the Crimea charged 3d, redirected at Reading with 1d stars pair tied by Reading "635" spoon. Click to view full image... 1879 (Jan 17) Unaddressed cover with embossed Post Office flap bearing 1876 6d grey plate 15 overprinted "SPECIMEN", tied by London "1" trial duplex cancel, the horizontal bars thinner than those found in the usual London duplexs, leaving larger gaps. Specimen overprints of the 2½d plate 15, 6d plate 15 and 1/- plate 13 are known on unaddressed covers with this trial cancel (with no more than two of each known); the only other recorded example of this 6d Specimen on cover is in the National Postal Museum.
