  Ireland - Lord Lieutenants School Fund. 1823 Entire to Myshall, headed in manuscript "Lord Lieutenants School Fund" and initialled, with a Dublin Free c.d.s, intended to be turned and posted back with the reply, the inside with the printed address panel to Sir E.S. Lees at the G.P.O Dublin, headed "Lord Lieutenants School Fund" with the corner imprint "John Litton, Esquire / 20, Leeson - Street". This was one of 25 charitable or religious societies allowed to frank letters, very scarce. £120-150

Click to view full image...Click to view full image...Click to view full image... 1883-1968 Parcel Post labels (361) and related items, the Captain H.T Jackson collection which formed the basis of an accompanying G.B Journal article, including "PARCELS POST" labels type A1 for Ballindara and Ballysallough (both unused) and type A2 for Norwich used in 1884, scarce small size type A7 labels without office name used in 1885 from Lombard St. or Beckenham (bearing 1883-84 3d + 6d), many other types for London, English or Scottish offices with a good proportion bearing stamps, unappropriated types, rubber cancels, Parcel Post datestamps, rare handdrawn label of Stocksfield, etc. Also the original 1882 Post Office Parcels Act, Parcel Post Paid datestamps, undelivered parcel labels, Whitfield King 6d postal stationery parcel label, etc. A few faults and the odd stamp removed but the majority fine, an interesting collection.   1838 Forty page review of the third edition of Rowland Hill's Post Office Reform pamphlet and the first report from the Select Committee on Postage, from the April 1838 "London and Westminster Review". A well written summary of Hill's best arguments, strongly supporting postal reform and penny postage, written for the magazine by Henry Cole. £150-200

  Ocean Penny Postage. 1851 Pamphlet published by "The Association to Promote a Cheap and Uniform System of Colonial and International Postage", whose office was at the Society of Arts in London. The 12 page pamphlet details a meeting of the society on 17th November, listing those present and reporting the speeches in support of cheap international postage by Earl Granville, Sir John Burgoyne, Mr Hume, Mr Cole and others. A rare leaflet, not in the Crawford library and not recorded by J. Grimwood-Taylor in "International Postal Reforms", although he describes an 1853 pamphlet by the Association (p.934/5) of which just two examples are known. £200-250

A little staining and one 1d envelope torn, a unique archival page. £200-250

  c.1904 KEVII ½d Yellow-green and 1d P.T.P.O envelope stamps, sheets of paper (each 454x303mm) with 48 embossed stamps arranged in four panes of twelve, the two upper and two lower panes tete-beche, one page of 1d stamps on white wove paper, two pages of ½d or 1d stamps on laid paper with "JOHN DICKINSON & Co" watermark. Also a further plain sheet of the Dickinson watermark laid paper, these four pages contained within a fifth sheet of Dickinson watermark laid paper which is embossed with a single KGV 3d P.T.P.O envelope stamp and is inscribed "folder D" and "Unused sheet of Edward VII ½d green embossed (48 stamps), unique, only sheet extant". The sheets folded vertically between panes not affecting any of the embossed stamps, the 1d wove paper sheet with a few very minor creases, otherwise fine and rare, the ½d sheet possibly unique. Also 1883 1d pink envelope franked ½d cancelled "MID T.P.O / FROM THE SOUTH" c.d.s; 1898 2½d envelope from Dorchester to Newfoundland with "LONDON & HOLYHEAD T.P.O / NIGHT DOWN" c.d.s on the front; and 1903 registered cover from Germany with hooded circle "REGISTERED / LONDON & QUEENBOROUGH / S.T" datestamp on the front.
