"Mars". 1904 Picture Postcard headed from "Rothesay Bay, writing this on board the steamer The Mars", a KEVII ½d cancelled at Greenock, with superb oval "GLASGOW & SOUTH WESTERN RLY / P.S / 20 AUG 1904 / MARS / STEAM VESSELS" in violet. One of the rarest of all the Scottish steamer cachets, just two other examples recorded (both sold at auction within the last two years, for £900 and £920 respectively). Photo on Page 74. £700-800
| Greenock & Ardrishaig Packet | The "Chevalier" operated in the winter months only when there were very few tourists using the route, and very little mail was posted on board. Three types of double ring c.d.s were used on the "Chevalier" between 1903 and 1913; all are rare and lot 542 is the only recorded example of that type.
