  1957 Card bearing three photographic essays, submitted by Harold Bird for the new issue of Zanzibar, the reverse endorsed "Rejected Designs from Crown Agents" and "With the Compliments of the artist, Harold W. Bird", the card then apparently used by Bird as a Christmas card with "Greetings" written on the front and "A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year" on the reverse. Unique. £120-150

  1964 "JAMHURI 1964" handstamped overprints, mint and used stamps (including varieties) and covers written up on pages, comprising 1963 Freedom from Hunger 1s.30 mint block of four and single used on cover (unlisted by S.G.); 1963 Independence issue mint (20, also three pairs with variety one without surcharge), used (3) and covers (2, one commercial); and 1961 definitive issue mint (25, one double overprint, also two pairs variety one without overprint), used (19, eleven with double overprint) and covers (8, five commercial); also unused postal stationery (3). "Postage Dues of Zanzibar" by John Griffith-Jones refers to De La Rue's tender for Zanzibar due in 1930 and illustrates a similar 2c photographic essay, but does not record these two designs. The original painted essays apparently lost or destroyed, therefore only known from these photographs, from the De La Rue archives. A unique pair. (2). Photo on Page 232. £250-300
