  Pope Clement VIII. 1586 (Jan 11) Entire letter written and signed by Cardinal Ippolito Aldobrandini from Rome, addressed to Lorenzo Bondelmonti in Florence. The letter refers to the Grand Duchess Bianca Capello (former mistress of Francesco de Medici) and advises the addressee "never to disassociate yourself from the will of Princes, or even from their desire". Aldobrandini became Pope Clement VIII in 1592. £200-250

  Pope Gregory XV. 1623 (Feb 14) Letter from Pope Gregory XV to Cardinal Richelieu, written in a secretarial hand, no address panel. The Pope has asked the French King to respect the Cardinal, and tells him to listen to venerable brother Octavious Archbishop Tanser and take his advice; he gives his blessing for the Cardinal to do whatever is necessary for the needs of the Apostolic faith. £120-150

  1728-96 Letters from or to Popes, comprising 1728 printed announcement concerning Procurators of the Cathedral, sent on behalf of Pope Benedict XIII with his paper covered seal, addressed to Monsignor Tome Allessandro, Bishop of Nardo; 1774 letter from The Superior of the Community of the Convent of S. Maria of the Seven Wounds to Pope Clement XIV, asking the Pope to approve the election of Cardinal Corsini as the new Father Superior; and 1796 letter from the Marchesa Luisa Fiorentina to Pope Pius VI asking to be allowed to read certain books normally banned to her sex, with the Pope's reply in Latin, allowing her to read all books which her conscience judges to be harmless to religion and lifestyle.
