Three covers with cachets of "R.A.P.C Malaya", "3rd A.A Regt R.A" or ""D" Company 1st Bn. The Manchester Regiment" applied alongside the censoring officer's signature.   Ionian Islands. 1821 (June 24) Long entire letter from an army Captain, John Birtwhistle, at Argostoli, Island of Cefalonia, posted to England with partial "ISOLE / IONIE" handstamp and superb arc type "MALTA" (MSF-1c, a very early use), disinfection slits, charged 3/4. The letter contains news of the civil war in Greece, and the large numbers of refugees who have fled to the Ionian Islands. £100-120

Click to view full image... 1811 (July 20) Entire letter from "Grand River, Isle de France" written by Captain Alistair Maclean of the 86th Regt, to his father at Lagan, Ulva, Isle of Mull, light oval "PORT LOUIS / POST PAID" and oval "SHIP / (crown) / LETTER" of London, charged 1/5. Maclean reports the illness of Col. MacQuarrie (later Governor of New South Wales). Maclean was wounded in July 1810 in the campaign to capture the island of Reunion.
