Click to view full image... 1945 (Apr 21) Registered cover franked by Mobilisation of Home Guard 12pf + 8pf pair and 12th Anniversary of Third Reich 12pf + 38pf pair, posted on the day of issue of this final Third Reich issue, from Berlin 8 to the Hugeland Hospital at Berlin-Buch, with red Berlin 8 registration label and August 16th Berlin Buch arrival backstamp. A rare issue on cover, only on sale for a few hours in Berlin before street fighting made further postal activity impossible, held in the Post for four months before finally being delivered in August. One of the few genuine recorded uses of this April 21st issue, with a copy of a "Bund Deutscher Philatelisten" journal containing an article on this cover. Photo on Page 152. £400-500

Click to view full image... 1837 (Apr 24) Entire letter from Private Tuck of the 87th Regt., reporting the visit of the Prince of Wales who was at Gibraltar for over a month recovering from measles; during this time there were field days and parties every day, but after all the trouble the Prince caused (especially in the mess of the 87th) he never so much as left a dollar. Posted to Tuck's sister in London prepaid at the 1d soldiers rate, headed "From Charles John Tuck Private Soldier 87 Regiment No 296" and countersigned, with black "GIBRALTAR / PAID" handstamp and a London datestamp. Also 1758 letter (no address panel) written from H.M.S "Prince" at Gibraltar, reporting the loss of H.M.S "Prince George" at sea due to fire; and 1802 letter written from H.M.S "Essex" at Gibraltar, addressed to "Nath. Dana, watch maker, Providence" (Rhode Is. or Nova Scotia?), privately carried, endorsed "Favd by Mr Spellman". (3). Photo on Page 148. £200-250
