AN OFFICER'S MINIATURE - 15ct SWEETHEART BROOCH etc. A miniature with a portrait of Lt J H Hornby RE, his identity bracelet, also 15ct gold Royal Engineers sweetheart brooch. Lt John Henry Hornby served in France and Flanders from 1916, he was Killed In Action on the 7th November 1918. Wounded almost as soon as he arrived at the front during the Battle of the Somme, he was also Mentioned in Despatches. The second son of Stephen Langton Hornby, his elder brother Captain Hugh Hornby Died of Wounds in July 1918, whilst serving with the R Inniskilling Fus. Original sketch photographic portrait of John Hornby, whose young lady was Miss Madelaine Aylwin-Foster of Cheltenham, 'Bunny' was close to him. Caricature sketches of her reproduced, also an envelope addressed to her. £200-250 |
