His group of mounted miniatures, showing he was also entitled to 1939/45 & France - Germany Stars, Defence & War Medals with his TEM. His brothers group of four medals, 1939/45 & Africa Stars 98th Army Clasp). Defence & War Medals. A Malta 50 yr medal 1942-92 and Sjt Hoppers box of issue. Frederick William Hopper was born in Lyme Regis in 1913 on the 10th September. Originally in the Dorset Regt with two original photographs of him in that regiment. £50-70

Aged 19 years and formerly 70962 in the Devon Regiment. Born at Grinton and educated at Taunton Somerset. He was serving with the 1st Battn and is buried in Harlebeke Cemetery in Belgium. A CASED GOLD MUSIC PRIZE MEDAL. A 22ct Royal Academy of Music Walter MacFarren medal, awarded in 1904 to Claude Gascoigne. In John Pinches fitted case, with ring top suspender, weighing 36.1 grams. Founded by himself 1896 to commemorate the completion of 50 years of Professorship. The brother of Sir George A Macfarren born 1813-1887 who suffered from Bronchitis a weak heart and later complete blindness. Walter like his brother a composer was born in 1826 and died in 1905, with like his brother weak eyesight. At the age of four he discovered a love and talent for music, and was in the choir at Westminster Abbey. In 1846 he became a sub professor of the piano-forte, remaining on the staff for 57 years. Music Critic to the Queen in 1862. Claude Gascoigne won the Heathcote Long Prize in 1903, a friend of York Bowen and duet partner. See Illustration £1000-1200

A PRESENTATION WRISTWATCH FROM Lt Col P J D TOOSEY. A Majex wristwatch with an inscription on the reverse, To Capt Q M E Marchant, in appreciation from Lt Col P J D Toosey RA and Mjr J M Harrison RA April 1949. It was the maligned and outraged Lt Col Toosey who was the senior officer, portrayed by Alec Guinness in The Bridge over the River Kwai film. Far from being the fictional collaborator with the Japanese Army building the bridge. He saw action in France and then commanded the Hertfordshire Yeomanry during the Defence of Singapore (DSO). Despite being ordered to evacuate, he stayed to be with his men. He was to endure many beatings when complaining about the inhuman treatment of the 12,000 POWs. He organised smuggling in of food and medicine. He refused to allow a separate Officers Mess, ordered all officers to intercede for the men who were to be punished. He witnessed the bayonetting of two officers he assisted to escape. Over 200 Japanese were hanged for their crimes, Sgt Major not Col Saito was saved by Colonel Toosey's direct intervention. Both bridges built were destroyed by aerial bombs. £50-80
