Click to view full image... TREASURY ROULETTES & ARCHER PERFS. - TREASURY ROULETTE 1d RED ON COVER FROM LONDON (CHARING CROSS) TO EDINBURGH; Attractive 12 Nov. 1853 mourning env. (horiz. crease which does not affect the stamp; with black wax comic seal; "WHO DARE MEDDLE WI ME/[thistle]") from the "Thomas Rankin" correspondence to Edinburgh franked by an 1852-53 1d Red-Brown with the very rare 'Treasury Roulette' on all four sides, well tied by a fine London "12" in diamond numeral (and a light postman's thumb-print apparently in the same ink), having the small red Maltese-Cross-framed "C+" (Charing Cross Branch Office) d.s. on the reverse, overlapped by the 13 Nov. Edinburgh arrival c.d.s. SG Spec.B2a (cat £23,000). Fine London usage. Accompanied by RPS opinion (2010) 'faked treasury roulette' with which we strongly disagree, plus BPA Cert (2015) 'is genuine'. Discussion with experts currently studying these items confirms the wave cuts on this stamp conform to other undoubtedly genuine examples. Important exhibition item. £5,000
