  DORCHESTER - TINY HANDSTRUCK "Missent to" MARK BESIDE MILEAGE-REMOVED MARK; 21 Dec. 1833 EL (wax seal offset toning on address panel) from London to "Stock Gayland, Dorset" endorsed "Dorchester" and then "Blandford" with a fine rare tiny Handstruck "Missent to" (rare, 254; there was no example in the Millson Collection) mark nicely placed on the front beside a mainly very fine "DORCHESTER" mileage-removed mark. Also 17 Dec 1832 EL ex Bombay with circular "INDIA SOLDIERS/3/LONDON". This letter from a private of the 'Queens Royal[s]' to his cousin (& family) in Ashby de la Zouch ends rather disturbingly with the words "... I do not suppose I shall ever see you or them again". EDMUNDS" c.d.s. on the top flap, cancelled by a very fine orange-red Bury Maltese Cross; unusually endorsed in c.1890; "Used to Frank letters before stamps were invented [issued May 6th 1840]. This is rather valuable."! £120

  IPSWICH - 1d ENVELOPE WITH RARE BLACK/GOLD SNAIL WAFER SEAL & ODDLY BROWN MALTESE CROSS; 26 Jan. 1841 usage of the Stereo A179 (scarce Forme 4) 1d Black Mulready envelope (minor wear & some dusting etc.) to Dublin via London cancelled by a very fine Ipswich Maltese Cross in a very unusual Red-Brown shade, but having a fine black "IPSWICH" mileage-removed c.d.s. on the reverse; most exceptionally sealed by a comic pictorial wafer seal in gold on black showing a snail inscribed "ALWAYS AT HOME". Believed to be from the addressee's husband, Capt. Husband (!) of the 8th Hussars. Doubly unusual. £160

Rare error leaving the Mulready uncancelled like this. £140
