  1944-45 CORRESPONDENCE FROM A SERGEANT IN INDIA; Group of mainly generic airletters (two with coloured Xmas or New Year greetings, another with "DAMAGED/BY WATER" cachet on reverse) uprated KGV Indian adhesives tied by (Army) Camp P.O c.d.s. and all from a serving sergeant to his wife in England. Various "UNIT CENSOR" circular markings - some signed, others with printed codes plus "RAF. CENSOR/127" h.s, honour envs. (13), some uprated with adhesives, airgraphs, telegrams etc. £200

Click to view full image... NAPOLEONIC P.O.W.s AT BRISTOL - FRENCH SHIP CREW LIST POWs RELEASE ORDER+ DOCUMENTS REF. RATIONS & NEW PRISON; 24 Oct. 1803 EL (some dusting of address panel) prepaid from "Transport Office" (London) to "Capt. J. Baker, Agent for Prisoners of War, Stapleton, Bristol" endorsed "H.M.S." and "P. Transport Office" on the front with London "PAID" c.d.s.; the letter instructs the addressee to release 18 prisoners and send them to Southampton to embark for France (but that any of them who were Officers or "Sea-faring Persons" should instead be sent "on Parole to Lichfield". Plus 1799 French part printed naval crew list for a voyage from Bordeaux to "Cap" (Haiti), enormous partly printed July 1803 contract (not filled in) to supply daily rations of bread/beef/pease/salt for POWs at prisons in Stapleton, Chatham, Stilton, Plymouth & Portsmouth, and 8 Mar. 1804 retained copy of a lengthy manuscript agreement between the Transport service and two local Stapleton men to build a new Military Prison (with coloured sketch plan of the building). Rare and attractive. 13 Feb. 1807 EL from "Citadelle [Strasbourg]" addressed to a French General with "la Grande Armee" at Warsaw ("Varsovia") with v. fine "67/STRASBOURG" on the front. Good pair. BEDS; Lengthy fine 25 Oct. 1809 EL (full English translation) "Des Prisons de Guerre de Stapleton" to the Transport Office in London (unsealed) with 35 POWs names/signatures at the foot asking for their release as they had been captured on 'Le Mars' which was taking them - badly wounded soldiers - back to France from Haiti; plus 1 Mar. 1808 large part printed contract document (worn in places) for supplying "Palliasses & bolsters" for the prisoners use at Stapleton Prison.
