BOTSWANA

1931
1966 The UNIQUE unmounted mint Birds overprint on Bechuanaland 7 1/2c yellow background COLOUR ERROR with clear BPA 2011 colour photo-certificate. Listed by SG but catalogued only as used - SG states "all known examples come from first day covers" making this discovery the only known mint example extant. Catalogued as used by SG at £1,600 an example on FDC sold for over full catalogue value (over £1,600 including buyer's premium at a recent London auction. Pierron catalogues a used single at £2,500 suggesting this colour error may come from an early or trial printing as such sheets are invariably supplied early to First Day Cover producers before other outlets. Very fine unmounted mint and a UNIQUE Birds colour error. Compared to the Falkland Islands HMS Glasgow error of which 17 are believed to exist which is catalogued £40,000 and realises up to £23,000 or more in auction this is a unique opportunity and more modestly estimated. US PH Plate 6 £4450
