1877 Local rate cover franked 1d grey blue, addressed to St Philips. Cancelled by Barbados cds 'A FE 14 77' (was it a Valentine's day card inside?). Handstruck "TOO LATE" has been crossed out in blue crayon & a previous owner has attempted to rub out the crayon mark. Cover tear at top. But this is an extremely rare local rate cover, of which, apparently only 4 or 5 are recorded. (Cert BPA 1979) PH Plate 32 £500

1882 A UPU formula postcard with 1d grey-blue to Prince Kofi Nti c/o J H Collens Esq, in Trinidad. Cancelled with Barbados cds & oval indistinct numeral. Trinidad arrival cds. Interesting detail of the recipient. "The signal station, (in Trindad) built about 1883, was designed by Prince Kofi Nti, son of King Kofi Calcali of Ashantee, West Africa. He arrived in Trinidad on July 1, 1881, having become a ward of the British Government after a war against the Ashantees in 1872. Front has been cleaned & some reverse could be improved. A great rarity. £2000
