1896 Newspaper wrapper made out of an envelope sent to Austria, with 1895-96 1d applied over the left edge and 1/2d vertical pair over the right edge and also applied to the printed contents (a small part of which still remains) in order to attach the contents to the wrapper, with Austrian 2k newspaper tax stamp applied upon arrival, tied by "ZAMRSK" c.d.s. 1895 (Sept 6) Letter written and signed by Leo Weinthal, manager of "The Press" printing and publishing works in Pretoria, on headed notepaper, to W.A. Thomson, the artist who designed this stamp - "Dear Mr Thomson, In view of the congratulatory expressions, which have been personally tendered to me today by President Kruger and members of the govt at the manner in which the "Press" works have executed the order for 11/2 million Postage Stamps and wishing to give you an expression of my personal pleasure at the way in which you contributed towards the work in question and the general interest you take in the good name of the productions from your Dept I beg you to accept the enclosed small cheque from me in private capacity as an expression thereof, very truly Leo Weinthal". Also a single stamp within an envelope inscribed by Thomson "designed & engraved for the Transvaal Govt to commemorate the 1d postage throughout S. Africa by W.A. Thomson". A unique letter that proves the initial printing was 1,500,000. (2). £150-200
