Railways. 1910-11 Letters from Richard Church, a railway engineer on the Lagos Railway, to his wife in Kent, six letters written en route in England or on S.S "Akabo", one from Lagos, sixteen letters from Offa in Northern Nigeria where Church was overseeing works including building a loco workshop, carriage and wagon repair shop and goods shed, the remaining 26 letters from the railway headquarters at Ebute Metta where Church was in charge, contents mentioning sport and social activities and works on the railway including tours of inspection. One letter on Lagos Govt Railway notepaper includes news received of Crippens execution and the work of suffragettes, a June 1911 letter gives details of Coronation day festivities at Lagos with an enclosed programme for the regatta, another with five photos of Offa enclosed, also a letter of thanks from a native employee. One cover with a T.P.O cancel, the others all carried by train and posted at Lagos, many cover faults, nine with stamps torn away, an interesting social and historical correspondence. (49). £200-250
