Click to view full image... 1892 ½d on 4d Brown horizontal pair variety surcharge double one albino (left stamp with "HA" inked on second impression), the right stamp also with the variety no hyphen, used with Barbados datestamps (AU 2 92). Small surface scrapes to both stamps and minor toning, left stamp with small thin and slightly short corner perf, nevertheless a unique pair. The surcharge double one albino variety listed but unpriced by Gibbons with the additional no hyphen variety unlisted. Just two examples of this double variety are recorded, the other known stamp unused and stained. With Brandon Certificate (2016) which fails to mention the missing hyphen variety on the right stamp. Click to view full image... 1881 (Aug 21) Protectorate 1d on 1d cancelled by the "TATI / BECHUANALAND" c.d.s, only recorded on this one date. Five datestamps were produced on this day for the offices on the new runner post from Mafeking to Gubulawayo, all inscribed "Bechuanaland" but this was removed from the datestamps prior to use when it was realised some offices were actually in Matabeleland; a small number of stamps were cancelled to order on this one day prior to the datestamps alteration.   Ngamiland/Boer War. 1899 (Oct 5) 1d + 1d Reply card written by Edward Lugard from "Kwebe Hills, Ngamiland" to Miss Lugard in France, privately carried to Palapye with oval forwarding agents cachet of "Blackbeard Bros, General Dealers, Cattle & Ostrich Feathers bought & sold, Palapye", posted at Palapye on Oct. 29th, 24 days after it was written, routed through Rhodesia due to the Boer War, backstamped at Bulawayo (Nov. 5), Durban and Cannes. Kwebe was the base for the British Charterland Expedition. Very unusual. £120-150

Click to view full image... 1865 1d Rose-red, variety imperforate, four margins, used with "2" numeral cancel of Hamilton, minor toning, a light "Faux" handstamp erroneously applied to the reverse, otherwise fine, a good example of this rarity. About 14 examples of this variety are known, all used at Hamilton and cancelled with this type K1 numeral "2". They are thought to be plate proofs sent to Bermuda in error and used by the Postmaster.
