Birch informs Young that the Governor-General is not contemplating making Scinde a part of the Punjab, and gives news of the Commander-in-Chief. 1853 (July 12) Stampless cover with enclosed letter from Herbert Edwardes at Abbottabad - Huzara, addressed to "Major Keith Young, Judge Advocate Genl, Head Quarters, Simla", the reverse with red boxed "HUZARA / Paid" and "SIMLA" datestamps. Edwardes writes that he has just returned from a frontier expedition in the valley of Kagham where he had marches of 18 or 20 miles in the hills. Sir Herbert Edwardes founded Abbottabad in 1853. 1879 (May 30) Cover with enclosed letter from Camp Safed Sanj, from Capt. H.M Sandbach of the 4th Hazara Mountain Battery R.A to his father in Wales, with 1a + 4a unusually cancelled by the "FIELD P.O / MAY 30 / No. 15" c.d.s at Jellalabad. The interesting letter includes "Matters are gradually drawing to a close up here. Peace was signed by Yakoob about 4.30pm on Monday 28th inst., the treaty was immediately sent to Simla for Lord Lyttons signature. Yakoob is waiting here for it to come back, when he returns to Cabul, with or without Cavagnari is not yet known. The troops are to return to India as soon as possible". Luckily they had only small knives, with big ones they would have killed him outright. The marauders got away though some troops were sent out after them".
