Small Post Office Notice (138x217mm) "Inland Letters and Parcels, Rates of Postage"; 1872 P.O Notice "Mail for New Zealand" (faults); various complete of part Post Office Circulars with details of Ship Letters, telegraph offices at special events, 1900 Parcels to P.O.Ws in Boer Camps, etc. (9); and 1927 notice on the official collection of postal packets in London. Also 1922 (Sep 29) Post Office memo concerning the proposed issue of a 1½d postage due label for foreign surcharges, and a part 1922 Post Office Circular announcing a minimum charge of 1½d on underpaid mail from abroad. The four corners of the card clipped, otherwise fine. Neither Kidd or Campbell record the scheme in operation at Knutsford in 1904, although it is recorded in 1903 and 1906-09; this undoubtedly genuine card proves it was operating this year, and it seems likely to have operated in 1905 also. Only 725 items posted at Knutsford in 1903, a similar number likely to have been posted in 1904. A rare unlisted cancel, possibly unique. Photo on Page 90. £700-800

Norwich. 1903 Picture postcard with Christmas greetings posted within Norwich, a KEVII ½d tied by Norwich 575 duplex in red, simply containing a "5" and the year date "03" with the "3" inverted, very fine and rare. Norwich and Cheltenham used their ordinary datestamps in red with the date omitted on mail posted in advance for Christmas delivery in 1903.
