  Thailand. 1944 Fifth type P.O.W cards from Dutch prisoners in No. 1 or No. 3 P.O.W camps, both addressed to their wives in Java but handstamped violet boxed "NO RECORD / IN JAVA / P.O.W & INTERNEES CAMPS", one unusually returned to the sender endorsed "retour Aug '45 in N.P Kamp" (Nakom Pathon Camp). One card creased and a little soiled, the first line of the "No Record" cachet unclear; the second with a stained corner, the cachet fine, a scarce pair. (2). £160-180

  Thailand. 1942-45 Cover and cards to or from Sgt W.A Pyke, Beds & Herts Regt, comprising 1942 stampless cover to Singapore forwarded to Thailand with manuscript "OVL Q 1.11.42"; 1944 3d P.O.W postcard to "No. 4 P.O.W Thailand" with Japanese and British censors; 1945 1½d P.O.W card to "No. 4 Thailand" with violet "SERVICE / SUSPENDED / RETURN TO SENDER"; and fourth type P.O.W card from Pyke in No 4 P.O.W Camp, Japanese and British censors, all to or from Hertford, an interesting correspondence, all very fine. Thailand - Civilian Internee Mail. 1944 (Aug 14) Thai Red Cross message form from George Powell in Civilian Internment Camp, Bangkok, to his mother in Australia, handstamped circular "INTERNMENT CAMP / CENSORED / Bangkok, Thailand", red cachets of "THE THAI RED CROSS" and the Red Cross at Ankara (Dec 18) and Geneva (Jan 8), received 1st March 1945, the reverse with Victoria District Censor cachet explaining how to reply. Also Australian Red Cross letters (8) to Mrs Powell informing her that George Powell is an internee in Bangkok or forwarding cable messages from Powell received by the Red Cross in Geneva (3), another letter forwarding an interesting description of the internment camp sent to the Red Cross by a released internee (with Form B33 on communicating with prisoners), and letters on sending mail or parcels or acknowledging donations (with two covers); a 1940 letter and cover from Powell in Batavia, and two covers posted after liberation. These comprise a stampless cover marked "Prisoner of War Post" posted at Perth (Oct 17) with a letter from Powell at "P.O. Box 167, Bangkok, 2nd October", carried to Australia by a friend (Mr Sewell), in which Powell gives details on mails sent and received during his internment (13 Red Cross messages and six letters or cards sent, six letters received); the second written on December 24th, with cover marked "Ex POW Mail", posted in Australia (Jan 7) franked 5½d. An interesting group, the Red Cross message form fine and rare. (12+). Photo on Page 72 £500-600

  1945 Covers from liberated P.O.Ws in the Far East, comprising stampless air letters from K.S Prickett in Thailand (endorsed "Ex POW"), Bdr J.W Porter in Rangoon (endorsed "P.W.U.K R.A.P.W.I") or C.S.M Scotchmer in Saigon (RAFPOST 8 c.d.s); air letter from G.B to Pte R.W Housden in No. 1 Camp Thailand (stamp torn out); stampless cover to Ceylon from "R.T Sydney-Smith, Ex POW Camp Fukuoka" endorsed "P.O.W Mail" (U.S Navy datestamp); and stampless American Red Cross envelope from U.S Lt J. Manella (formerly a P.O.W in Rangoon) written on U.S.S "Cape Gloucester" at sea but posted from Simla to Canada endorsed "Letter from Recovered PW". (6). £100-120

Also an 1869 stampless entire from Liverpool to France with red "PD" handstamp applied in error and deleted with the same zig-zag handstamp.
