1918 INTERNATIONAL Titan 10-20 2cylinder petrol/kerosene TRACTOR Serial No. TV18609 Coming from long-term ownership in a well-known collection, this completely correct 1918 Titan is possibly the best example of this famous model in preservation. It has been restored to a very high standard, professionally repainted and sign-written, according to original data. It has all its serial number and instruction tags, correct original tinwork, safety guards etc and runs as well as it did when it left the factory. It is well-known on the show circuit, where it has won a number of awards. Little is known about its early history, but many such Titans were imported by the Ministry of Food to aid mechanisation of agricultural production during and after the First World War. A rare opportunity to purchase an iconic tractor in such excellent condition.

1963 MATBRO Mastiff 6/100MT 6cylinder diesel TRACTOR Reg. No. 741 PRT Serial No. 1754 The Matbro Mastiff agricultural tractor is one of the rarest and possibly the most impressive and desirable of all the Ford conversions. Just 20 were built from 1963-64 and there are currently only ten known survivors in preservation. However, this machine is unique in that Matbro's records show that it is the very first to be built and sold - a very special tractor of huge historic significance. The Mastiff design was the brainchild of Len Mathew, co-founder of Matbro Ltd of Horley in Surrey. During the 1950s, Mathew and his chief engineer, George Chapman, developed a four-wheel drive loading shovel based on Ford components. The shovel adopted the pivot-steer principle because the two colleagues believed that an articulated unit was the most efficient and cost-effective method of getting the power to the ground with the added advantage of a reduced turning circle. The Mastiff loading shovel was launched in 1958. The loading shovel also provided the basis for the agricultural Mastiff tractor, which had two Fordson Super Major rear-axle/transmission units linked via a propeller-shaft. A six-cylinder Ford 590E industrial engine, rated at 100 hp and mated to a normal Fordson six-speed gearbox, was mounted above the front drive unit. A five-section Reynolds chain inside a transfer case transmitted the drive from the gearbox to the propeller-shaft. The machine was steered by a double-acting hydraulic ram. The rear linkage had the benefit of an assister ram and was powered by a crankshaft-driven pump. Hydraulically-operated differential locks were provided on both axles, and a single brake pedal operated a disc-brake on the propeller-shaft. Ballast was a front-mounted weight beneath the engine and two side panniers just forward of the rear axle. Following trials in Lincolnshire, the tractor was launched in 1962 as the Matbro Mastiff 6/100 MT with a price tag of £2,500 (less 17.5 percent to the dealer). It was introduced to the public at a demonstration held in September, with the Mastiff working with a five-furrow Ransomes TS78 plough. Production was at Matbro's new Frome factory in Somerset, which had recently opened. Sales were aimed at arable farmers operating heavy crawler tractors. However, the model proved to be ahead of its time; prospective customers were reluctant to commit to such a novel design and sales were slow. High development costs also meant that the Mastiff was more expensive than its rival counterparts. A total of only 20 tractors were built, including six that were exported to Israel, Sweden or Denmark, before a halt was called to production in August 1964. Of those 20, ten are known to have survived with eight in the UK, one in Germany and one in Sweden. This machine was identified as the very first when, after lying undiscovered, it was brought to the attention of our consultant and marque expert, Stuart Gibbard, in 2009. Its identity was confirmed by the Matbro factory records, previously in the possession of the late John Mathew, son of Len Mathew. The tractor, serial number 1754, was supplied via the Ipswich Fordson dealers, Mann Egerton, who had a depot on Princes Street, on 19 March 1963. The tractor was purchased by John Haag of Norfolk & Suffolk Farms Ltd and was registered 741 PRT. The purchase price was £2,525 including linkage, lighting and differential locks, and a Fordson Super Major was traded in as part of the deal. A month later, Mann Egerton's salesman, Frank Sherman, sold a second Mastiff (No. 1780) to John Haag's brother, Jim, and this tractor has also survived into preservation. Both were operated with four-furrow Ransomes ploughs. It is also thought that another survivor, Mastiff No. 1755, delivered in March 1963, went through Mann Egerton's hands. No. 1754 was later traded in against a new John Deere from Ben Burgess of Norwich. On 15 December 1965, it was purchased from Burgess by Norfolk farmer, Spencer Cracknell. The tractor was used for primarily for ploughing and evidently gave few problems. It proved to have phenomenal pulling-power, even managing at one time to extricate a Caterpillar D4 that had sunk almost to the top of its tracks. The Mastiff was replaced by two Muir-Hill tractors in the 1970s. In 1987, it was put away into storage, still with just 3,100 hours on the clock, and did not turn a wheel until 2009 when the owner decided to restore it. The tractor has all the usual Matbro features including Doe-type linkage and an auxiliary fuel tank.

1966 COUNTY 954 Super 6 4wd TRACTOR Reg. No. NJH 883D Serial No. F6/15411 Fitted with Winsam weather cab, front weight block, wheel weights and rear linkage with V5 Available The County 954 Super Six was introduced at the Royal show in 1965 and was only in production for 2 years. A high horsepower tractor in its day it is unusual to find such an original example which has been barn stored for many years on a farm where it once worked. Discovered on a farm in East Hertfordshire. It is being offered for sale on behalf of the executors of a deceased estate. It is understood that the tractor was purchased second hand from a nearby farm some 18 years ago and used sparingly on the arable enterprise. The hour clock reading just 5,830 hours would seem to support this. The original supplier's plate on the bonnet indicates that the local well-known dealers A.T. Oliver & Sons Ltd of Luton sold the tractor new in 1966. The tractor is subject to an article in the May edition of Classic Tractor magazine and we are grateful for Rory Day, who wrote the article and for Simon Henley supplying the images of the tractor that he took during his visit.

1935 LANZ BULLDOG HR8 D9550 38hp diesel CRAWLER TRACTOR Engine No. 10266 Serial No. 125522 An original UK import purchased by the vendor's great grandfather as part of a consignment for no less than three crawlers, one for each farm! This particular example was retained while the remaining two were sold onto local farmers and have since disappeared. It is believed that the 3 crawlers were purchased together with 3 Lanz binders directly from the Lanz factory at Mannheim in Germany. Although the local franchised Lanz agent was local dealers Manns of Saxham, who are recorded as exhibiting a similar model at the Suffolk Show in 1936. The 38hp crawler was marketed as the D9550 (Standard Model), D9551( fitted with electric start, lighting and horn) and D9552 (as D9551 but without electric start). According to Lanz records the 38hp model was in production from 1935-1937 serial no's 125001-132957, therefore this particular tractor was in the first 550 to be produced and was possibly built in 1935 before being exported to the UK in 1936 and purchased by Mott Farms in the same year. The tractor has developed a wonderful patina and has been dry stored in a farm building for many years making only limited appearances. The present owner's late father remembers the tractor on belt work for threshing duties on the farm in the 1960s before being laid up. The tractor appears to have done light work particularly as the farm on which it spent its entire working life is an easy working Fenland farm. It is believed that this is the only 38hp crawler tractor remaining in the UK and that few remain in Europe, many having been destroyed during the Second World War, when they were commandeered for military use. This extraordinary tractor has aged well and is known to run and drive well on good running gear. The rather crude upholstery on the tractor seat still survives as do two original blow lamps and a blow lamp holder which still hangs from underneath the hot bulb. There can, surely, be no other Lanz Bulldog crawler which has been in the same family ownership for over 80 years, which is totally original and still capable of running. The chance of owning such a rare and unique tractor with such provenance does not arise very often and therefore the tractor demands close scrutiny as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.Lots 3099 - 3120 are consigned from the Dave Boyles Collection.

|
INTERNATIONAL 614 Roadless 4cylinder diesel TRACTOR Reg. No. OVF 667F (expired) Fitted with a Roadless 4wd front axle, PAS, linkage, swinging drawbar and good tyres. An IH 614 is rare in its own right, as they were only manufactured for 2 years, so to find one with a Roadless conversion is unheard of. It is believed only 5 or 6 614's were fitted with the Roadless axle and this original looking example was sourced by Dave in a poor state and it is understood it had originally worked in Shropshire. With considerable input by Dave this tractor breathes again and although the Roadless plate is missing from the front axle, the position where it was riveted exists. Arguably the rarest tractor in the Boyles Collection, this 614 Roadless is a must for the serious International enthusiast or indeed any vintage tractor collector given its rarity and desirability.
