  GT WAR MEDALS. A British War & Victory Medal pair in box of issue, named 93296 Gnr C H Hollis. RA. Addressed to 16 Barnsbury Park, Barnsbury. Gunner Charles H Hollis is confirmed on the medal index cards, to be entitled to the pair only. A Victory medal named to 8633 Pte C J Summer. R Irish Regt. Clifford J Summer (Sumner) went to France on the 14th June 1915, he is therefore entitled to the 1914/15 Star-British War Medals as well. On the MIC cards he is shown as Summer or Sumner though the number is the same. Barnsbury an area in North London. (Islington) £40-50

  A 1914 9th LANCERS (POW) TRIO & CLASP etc. A 1914 Star with August-November Clasp, named to 4653 Pte H C Warr 9th Lrs. British War & Victory Medals named to L-4653 Pte H C Warr 9-Lrs. Private Henry Charles Warr went to France on the 15/August/1914, with his Regiment. He presumably took part in the last Lance to lance charge of the British Cavalry, 7th September 1914 at Moncet. Taken Prisoner of War, his medals and 1914 clasp were awarded 19/9/1921. Clasp 41630. Also the original 1914 Xmas Tin issued to him, or his parents. Original photographs of the recipient in Dress Uniform and mounted, Prisoner of War/German Forestry scenes etc are with the group. £100-150

  A 1914/15 STAR & RELATED WWII GROUP. A 1914/15 Star named to Gnr J W Thomas RN. In 1919 Gunner (12th January 1915 seniority dated) John W Thomas was an Officer serving on 178 HMS Conquest. A mounted WWII group of five, Africa Star with 1st Army bar, War Medal, Italy Star, Defence Medal and 1939/45 Star. Mounted for wear in the wrong order and incorrect ribbons to medals, many years ago. HMS Conquest a Light Cruiser who served in the 5th L C Harwich Force from 1915 onwards. She was in the action and pursuit of the German Auxiliary Cruiser Meteor in August 1915. With a crew of 325, she also was hit during the Bombardment of Yarmouth & Lowestoft on the 26th April 1916. Suffering damage from a 12" shell, that destroyed her aerials and killed 25 of her crew and wounding 13 more. She struck a mine in 1918 (July) taking no further part in the war. £40-60

  A DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDAL/LSCG GROUP TO CPO G W P GALPIN. A George VI Distinguished Service Medal awarded in 1943 to then Petty Officer J.101151 Granville William Percival Galpin whilst serving on HMS Nubian. Complete with framed award document and a wartime Destroyer at sea photograph also framed. 1939/45 Atlantic bar France & Germany-Africa-Italy stars, unnamed as issued. George VI Long Service Good Conduct medal named to J.101151 G W P Galpin A/PO HMS Birmingham. Two ships that were to take part in many actions during WWII. The son of a Blacksmith who was born at Winterborne in Dorset, a specialist Director/Gunlayer in the RN. He died aged 80 years and was cremated at Salisbury, having his ashes cast in the sea from the Calshott Lifeboat. £1200-1500

Paperwork and Record of Service confirms Cpl William Henry Roach, served in India 1932-38, Malta 1939-42. Africa 1943, Italy 1943-44, France & Germany 1944-45. Germany 1945-1949. Austria 1945-55. Together with related photograph albums with inter war service in India topics and scenes etc. (3) Including Tribesmen and casualties, Troopships, Vehicles etc. Framed and loose Dorset Regiment Squads, Sports Teams, Soldiers etc. In all a unique record of long service overseas and at home, by the 2nd & 4th Battalions etc. A framed Bedplate and buttons etc, to 5724095 W Roach Dorset Regt, framed regimental embroidery with various formation badges, worn by the recipient. Also his Kings Badge and Award Certificate, also his 1992 Malta medal. With a photograph of this Veteran wearing his medals in his 80's. A copy of the Wessex Divisional History 1944-45. £100-200

  A 1736 8 REALES PIECE IN A MOUNT. The silver rim has not damaged the coin, in its circular mount with 27" neck chain marked sterling. Around the rim of the mount is Treasure from Hollandia Sunk 1743 sterling silver. Mexico mint on the Pillar Dollar obverse, some wear under saltwater condition to the coin is evident. £70-100

Click to view full image... A MILITARY CROSS & 1914 STAR TO THE QUEENS REGT. A George V issue Military Cross in case of issue, with original ribbon and top suspender present. A 1914 Star named to Lt B M Kenny The Queens R. Bertram Maurice Kenny was a serving officer when the Gt War started. He was commissioned into the Royal West Surreys (Queens R) where he was a Lieutenant when he embarked on the 13th Aug 1914 for France & Flanders. Wounded on the 14th October after taking part in the Retreat from Mons. It started by order on the 24th August, at one stage of the battle the Battalion retreated 52 miles in 16.1/2 hrs. Strangely the first officer wounded in action was Lt Pain. He was shot in the arm by a Frenchman, who thought he was a spy. It is noted that of the 1000+ men and officers who embarked for France in August 1914, only 17 were still serving at the Armistice. A group photograph of the 1st battalion officers is in the War Illustrated. Note below states, 'A Conspicuously Gallant Battalion, which has suffered great losses'. Promoted Captain 31/1/1915, Temp Major from Staff 4/1/1919. He vacated the position of Adjudant attached 13th London Regt 4/11/1920. Awarded 1914 Star and Clasp. Awarded a Military Cross. 1918. Brevet Major 1919, T/Major from Staff. He resigned his commission due to ill health (wounds) whilst on the half pay list, 13/10/1925. Retires on pay on account of ill health caused by wounds late the Queens Regt, with the rank of Major, 14/10/1925. In June the following year 1926 a B M Kenny died at Derby aged 41. The son of Judge William Kenny, Privy Counsellor and Unionist MP, who was left £1000 in the will of his third cousin Mjr General Sir Thomas Kelly-Kenny GCB, KCMG, GCVO etc. The Kenny family owned over 4000 acres, which included his ancestral home in Treammanagh. This was largely sold to the tenants in 1909, by Sir Thomas. One of whom's last acts was to visit his severely wounded cousin Bertram Kenny in Hospital, dying himself shortly after that. A friend of both Edward VII and George V, often giving them his advice. The family had a history of military service, through many generations of soldiers. Bertram's Gt Uncle served at Waterloo. The family were all Catholics and strong unionists. Bertram's brothers were Edward Henry and William David Kenny, he had three sisters. Bertram was Best Man at his brothers wedding to a Russian Aristocrats daughter. See Illustration £600-800
