  A FRAMED RFA/RFC OFFICERS SCROLL & KINGS LETTER. A contemporary framed Scroll and Kings Letter, sent to the family of Lt Arthur Vernon Oliver-Jones. Killed in Action as an Observer in 21 Sqdn, in July 1916. Lt A V O-Jones was reported missing then killed in action during a bombing raid over a French Train Station. He was the elder son of the late William O-Jones of Tunbridge Wells, nephew and adopted son of his uncle Mr Alfred Taylor-Jones of Wybourbe Grange Tunbridge Wells. Born on the 6th July 1892, his mother was Helen Maud O-Jones nee Appach. Educated at Oundle School he obtained a commission in the Royal Field Artillery in October 1914. He went to the front with the 66th Battery RFA on the 4th February 1915, he was seriously wounded at the Battle of Neuve Chappelle on July 9th 1915. Despite losing fingers on his left hand, he refused the 'Blighty' option and qualified as an Observer in March (11th) 1916. He served in France and during the months prior to his death, survived several crashes and forced landings with his pilot Captain J O Cooper. This after bombing or 'recce' missions over Lille and Cambrai, among others. On the 21st July 1916 he took off with Cptn Jack Cooper the son of Lady and Cptn Cooper, who was educated at Harrow in RE7 number 2388. In company with other aircraft their mission to bomb Epehy Station. At sometime during the flight they were brought down by Anti Aircraft fire, near Beaulencourt Village in the Pas de Calais. At first reported missing in action, their deaths were verified two days later (23rd). Originally a Kensington lad, he is commemorated on the Arras Flying Service Memorial. The six aircraft on the mission dropped (14) 112lb bombs on the station. His adopted father and uncle, claimed his medals giving the address as 15 East Cliffe Rd. Royal Tunbridge Wells. In the 1930's Jack Coopers father gave £5,000 to the building of the Lido Pavilion in Hyde Park, whereby a plaque to his son was to be placed. Arthur Oliver Jones was 24 years old when he left over £10,000 in his will February 15th 1917. (LG). His pilot was 20 years old. £50-80

  A FRAMED JONES FAMILY BADGE & BIBLE-PRAYER BOOK & MEDALS. An ornately framed family or clan badge, in brass with bulls head above. The initials in the centre could be SWJ or JWS, the motto reads Nec Temera Nec Timide. (Neither Rashly Nor Timidly). The badge and two different religious books are related to the Oliver-Jones or Taylor-Jones etc families A related badge is the decoration inside the cover. With notations back to 1733 in the larger Book of Common Prayer and Sacraments, with much inset detail of the family Printed MDCCL (1750). The smaller book a bible is noted as being the property of Helen Maud Appache (his mother) then later, Arthur his younger brother. The second with Delegate bar above RAOB centre, Presented to H Franklin for services rendered as delegate 14/6/1951. The third with Order of Merit bar above an inscribed cross with jewelled face centre. ROAB-Antediluvian-Order-Of-Buffaloes on the arms. Reverse inscribed This Order of Merit, and Honour of Knighthood was conferred upon Primo H Franklin by the members of the Chingford Services Rendered Ldge 2392 as a mark of respect for his services In The Cause of Buffaloism & their regard and esteem for him AS A Man, 17th June 1952. Primo bar above Justice Truth & Philanthropy and second bar Chingford Services Rendered Lodge 2392.   A MEMORIAL PLAQUE-FRAMED SCROLL-1914 XMAS TIN. A framed Memorial Scroll named to 2/Lt William Henry Irvine. Royal Flying Corps. The Medal Index Card confirmed he was ineligible for medals, none issued. Aged 19 years he was killed in an aerial accident whilst training with the RFC, prior to his posting to France. The son of Mary M Irvine of 2 Salisbury Avenue. Penarth. Glamorgan. Son of the late Mr H O Irvine and buried in St Brides Major (St Bridget) Churchyard. Glamorgan. In 1927 his mother M M Irvine is listed as living in Southerdown House, Southerdown, Nr Bridgend, Glamorgan. Educated at Wellington Shropshire and Malvern College. On leaving school in December 1915 he was matriculated at London University, after which he was employed at a Munitions Factory. He enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers in May 1916, being commissioned into the Royal Flying Corps in July. He received his 'Wings' on the 28th September 1916. (From Flight Magazine November 2nd 1916). A Memorial Plaque named to Francis Henry Vine. 11122 Pte in The South Wales Borderers who went to France on the 4th Jan 1915. He was Killed in Action 25/10/1915. The son of the late James Henry Vine and Priscilla Kneller (formerly Vine) of 201 Chamberlayne Rd, Eastleigh. Hants. Entitled to a 1914/15 Trio. Also a related 1914 Xmas Tin £60-80

  MEDALS & SPORTING AWARDS TO A H S HOSIE. Cased silver coloured metal Sports Medals, awarded to A H S Hosie C1930's. (8). Silver plated Mandalay Middleweight Boxing Cup and five others, all awarded in the Far East. Commission document for Allan Henry Sloane Hosie (framed) dated 1942, Emergency Commission into the Indian Engineer Corps, later attached Gurkhas or Chindits (family provenance). A fine boxer who won various bouts in the Far East including the Army-Navy-Police Tournament in 1933 (Silver Cup). His framed medals and identity bracelet, consist of the 1939/45-Burma-Defence & War medals mounted for wear, with Majors pips present. After the retreat from Burma Allan Hosie was commissioned and took part in the recapture of territory from the Japanese prior to their surrender. £100-120

Click to view full image... FRAMED PLAQUE & MEDALS TO PTE J JENKINS MONMOUTHSHIRE REGT. A 1914/15 Star British War & Victory medals named to 2632 Pte J Jenkins Monmouth R. A classical reminder of the sacrifice of World War One, relating to Pte Jack Jenkins, of the Monmouthshire Regt. Killed in Action aged 19, from Swindon Wilts, at the time of his death. Jack R Jenkins was serving in the 3rd Battalion of the Monmouthshire Regt, having arrived only three months earlier in France & Flanders. His death on the 8th may 1915, is recorded on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial. His parents Meyrick and Mary Elizabeth Jenkins were living at 61 Newhall Street, Swindon. They purchased the wooden framed Angel over standing Soldiers, aeroplanes etc in this bronzed finish memorial. Adding the Death Plaque above and mounting the medals across the top, with inset details. In loving memory of our dear son, Pte Jack R Jenkins Mons Regt. Reported missing and presumed Killed In Action in France, on May 8th 1915. Aged 19 years. Under a poem of the hurt experienced at his loss, above the words 'The Path of Duty was the way to Glory'. One hundred years ago this month, with the pain they felt so very obvious and moving. See Illustration £150-200

A Plaque named to Alexander William Simpson, above a photograph of their 19 year old son who went off to war. Scroll named to Pte Alexander William Simpson Lincolnshire Regt, also the Kings Letter. Oak framed with oak veneer backing, in this contemporary 25.1/4" x 19.1/4" unmolested display. Pte Simpson was the son of Alfred & Elizabeth Simpson of 185 Merridale Street, Wolverhampton West. Staffordshire. Killed in Action whilst serving in B Coy 2/5th Lincolnshire Regt. Buried in Grave Ref 11.B.7 at Arneke British Cemetery France. See Illustration £120-150

A GVI Territorial Efficiency Medal named to Lt E H Waite RE (Top bar Territorial). Award slips dated 17/12/1949, confirming the TEM award to Captain E H Waite 15 Dulverton Mansions, Grays Inn Road, London WC1. Another slip with medal ribbon attached, stating that the demand for medals would be causing some delay. This was dated 3/11/1947, the medal and award slip stating LG date of 28/Nov/1947 Supplement 38134, this missive dated 4/2/1950. A Permanent Pass Book issued to 1091 Sergeant Waite E H, 19th Service Battalion Royal Fusiliers, dated July 1915. Also an associated medal slip, stating two WWII medals awarded. A 1914 Xmas tin with card, E H Waite Sergeant 19th Battn Royal Fusiliers, Xmas 1914 inscription in the inner lid. Also two associated family? British War medals, named to S-4434 Sjt L A Prince.
