| PORTER COLE: (1891-1964) American Composer. A good A.M.Q.S., Cole Porter, on an oblong 12mo page possibly removed from an autograph album, Beverly Hills, California, 1st October 1946. In dark fountain pen ink Porter has neatly penned two bars of music which he identifies as being from Night and Day. Inscribed by Porter above the quotation and signed beneath. A typed caption in the lower left corner provides the place and date when the quotation was signed. Two small file holes to the left edge and two small scuffs, none of which affect the text or signature. About VG £400 - 600 Night and Day is Porter's most popular song, written in 1932 for the musical play Gay Divorce. It was to become one of Fred Astaire's signature pieces and is performed in the 1934 Astaire & Rogers film The Gay Divorcee. |
