(Sawrey), n.d. (22nd December, year illegible on the postmark), to Mrs. Stephens in Dorset. Potter writes, in full, 'Love & best wishes for Xmas & New Year to Edith & Jennie'. A little light age wear, otherwise VG £300 - 400 Edith Stephens (nee Warne) was the sister of Norman Warne (1868-1905), English Publisher and Potter's Editor. Warne and Potter were engaged to be married, but he died before the wedding could take place. Jennie Stephens was the daughter of Edith. Potter lived at Hill Top Farm in Near Sawrey and a number of sites in the village, and the neighbouring Far Sawrey, were used in her books including The Tale of Jemima-Puddleduck. |

(London), 30th December 1890, to a gentleman, on the blind embossed stationery of the Lyceum Theatre. Stoker writes on behalf of Ellen Terry who has asked him to convey her compliments and thanks to the correspondent, further enclosing a cheque for £47 (no longer present) and explaining 'She has mislaid the a/c sent but thinks that this is the correct amount.'
