LINDBERGH CHARLES: (1902-1974) American Aviator who made the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean, 20th - 21st May 1927. A good wartime T.L.S, Charles A. Lindbergh, one page, 4to, Massachusetts, 14th December 1941, to the Members of the America First Committee. Lindbergh writes, in full, 'Our country is now at war, probably the most serious war in all its history. We who opposed involvement in this war were, I believe, correct in our stand. We advocated building an impregnable defense for America, and leaving foreign wars to foreign peoples. The wisdom of our policy of building strong defences has been clearly shown by developments in the Pacific. The final judgment of our policies must be left to the future and to more objective times; but in this final judgment, I have complete confidence. Now, nothing is to be gained by arguing about who was right and who was wrong. Our political opinions may be expressed at the coming elections, but our primary attention must be devoted to prosecuting this war in the most constructive and intelligent manner. We have contributed the best we could give to our country in time of peace. Now, we must contribute the best we can give in time of war. America needs our assistance, and that assistance will be forthcoming to the greatest ability of every one of us'. A letter of fine content. Some extremely minor age wear, otherwise VG £400 - 600
