  1916 (Sep 14) Cover from Ottawa to The Postmaster at Nassau bearing Canada 2c + 1c War Tax cancelled at Ottawa and Bahamas Special Delivery 5d cancelled at Nassau (Sep 20), arrival backstamp. An early use of the Special Delivery stamp (the earliest cover in the Ludington and "Staircase" collections posted October 12) and rare from Ottawa. 600 Stamps were printed of which 330 were sent to Canada for sale in early 1916 but virtually all were sent to Toronto or Winnipeg, just ten stamps going to Ottawa. Until December 1916 the Bahamas stamps should have been cancelled in Canada; Ottawa handled so few letters they were probably unaware of this. Photo on Page 96. £200-250

  World War One. 1916 Stampless O.A.S covers from soldiers in the British West Indies Regt in Egypt sent back to the Bahamas, one to Nassau with Army Post Office SZ12 c.d.s and circular "ADVERTISED" applied upon arrival (Proud I2, later than recorded), the other cover to Inagua with violet "GOVT HOSPITAL / ALEXANDRIA" and "ON FIELD SERVICE", Alexandria and arrival datestamps, endorsed "From Percy A. Hanna, 2498 (2) B.W.I Regiment". Also 1918 censored cover from Nassau franked QV 1d (2), enclosed letter from Walter Hess stating he has accepted a Commission in the A.E.F. (3). £100-150
